Hello everybody
I'm from Belgium (sorry for the english)
and i'm totally new with making all kind of electronic music.

Here are some original chiptune or folk inspired songs : the first ones I made with famitracker in 3 days of work.

Do you guys can give me some advice to get better at this ?

thank you for your helpful answer...
I know it is absolutely no great work : I said i'm a very beginner.
I thought this forum was a good place to receive good advice from a community of experienced people, who can tell me why it is bad and ways to learn making great stuff...

this was the point of this post : I was expecting (harsh)criticism but people here seem not to appreciate sharing their knowledge...

a bit disappointing, but I will continue learning by myself, even if no one cares...

all of these are really great, and that's not "for a beginner" stuff. I mean overally. i like the flemish_folk_tune, loito_do_mar, polka_de_chastagnol, short_loop and valse_ppre. these sound so... majestic. all of these have potential - my only complaint is that these are too short. you should focus more on one song, that'll be longer and much more complex.

Belgium folklore? You don't see too many of these things here.

Being a fairly recent member here, I'm not one to talk about my own experience, but I can give you the few advices that come to mind:

-Overall there is a lack of volume control. The melody doesn't stand out very much resulting in the songs sounding a little shallow. I know nothing about Belgian folklore, but unless it's a hurdy gurdy playing the instruments have more pronounced dynamics.

-You can try deepening the vibrato little by little to give more expression to the melody.

-The arpeggi are a little harsh to the ears. You can make them more pleasant to the ears by either lowering the volume, making them sound like percussion with a quick volume slide down or reducing the arpeggio speed (e.g. using the instrument editing tool and put one same note every other frame)

-Perhaps the best way to improve your tracking skills is to scrutinize the songs posted here or a nsf via NSF Importer and see what they do with the notes, effects and whatnot, playing them one channel at a time at a lower speed if need is. Once you've done that you can start messing around with the effects to see what they sound like, take cues then write your own song using those techniques. (Sorry if that last bit was poorly worded)

-Should you want to make your songs richer and add more voices, you can always add an expansion chip (like the VRC6).

-The rest is down to your musical ear, how you hear each part for instance.

That aside, I'd say you're on a good start. Keep it up!

About the flemish folk tune:
There is a glaring error at frame 03, row 20 on channel 2 in which the melody and secondary voices end up being dissonant, so I took the liberty to fix it.

Great job on all of this! Honestly, you have a great ear for melody. My only criticism is that some of the songs are a little shallow - they lack 'oomph'. And the melodies can be a little screechy at times. So, I very quickly remixed one of your tracks, and added some bass and drums, and tried to make the melody a bit smoother. Aside from that, your music is great!

Great stuff for a beginner, much better than how most start, as with the other posters i agree that you need a sense of volume control, the depth of the vibrato is a matter of opinion, and what you are personally going for.

so i put this together to demonstrate what you can do if you apply volume control and add more to it.

my only personal gripe is that you have the tempo set to something other than 150 which makes being precise with effects like Sxx a bit more difficult

Thank you everyone for the reviews

I tried to develop my first song with an intro and a second part, and I gave it a title (things are becoming serious )

I didnt put percussions and made a drone with the triangle because I thought there was enough rythm with the melody only.

First I had problems with the sound that was popping, so I transposed the whole thing 1 half tone higher but the pops are still alive :/
Can someone explain where does it come from ?

The intro is inspired by the remix of lemadman (thank you)

What do you think over ?
(Maybe there are too much effects, I think but, guys, this is chiptune isn't it ? )

First up - I'm quite flattered
And then, I have to say this new song is amazing. Much better than any of the stuff I made 9 days into Famitracker! I know there will be great things coming from you in the future... Keep up the good work.
