I was tired of hearing mega man songs all day for my current nes project so I decided to remake a simple song that I like from Ninja gaiden. It was easier than I thought and I think sound very close to the original. I'm sure Tssf will tell me that I'm missing some triplets or things like that but since I'm a beginner, I'm expecting it and will be more than happy to hear comments about errors, if any
I love ninja gaiden so it was a fun song to remake by listening to the nsf and trying to figure out how to make the instrument. I still need to slow down and disable channel but it's still fun.
I hope you will enjoy it as much as I had fun making it.
edit:
Fixed volume of lead 1, was too short. Getting better.
Nope, song doesn't use triplets. :P Lol. It's pretty accurate. Actually you did amazing, very cool. If I may nitpick one tiny little thing, the part where you're repeating notes don't actually repeat notes, they're just doing vibrato in the original song. However, you can barely notice with all the instruments playing, so it's a minor flaw, no biggie.
Song is pretty awesome though. and how could anyone get tired of hearing megaman songs all day?! :o
I was just joking since it was the thing I always missed in mega man songs
I did update the song again for some volume that I didn't like on lead 1. As for the extra notes, you got the file before my 3rd(!) update (...). I added vibrato on them. I'm almost sure I know the one you mean. If you do remove the extra notes, it will sound too short so some must still be there. The original, if played slowly (I did), if you check the volume (which goes 44444443333333222222211111110), it's always at 4, meaning the notes are played (I think).

I don't know how you can say that with a straight face since you did the complete song track, you must be tired by now :P Joking aside, I almost listening to your sound track everyday at work so.. Not tired, just wanted to see if I could redo songs from a game I really like the sound track (my avatar should be a good indicator).
edit:
I forgot to say thanks for the comment. I got out of bed because I couldn't sleep without saying it ^^;; Nitpicking is ok since it helps improve the song. Since I updated the file you should give it a second spin and see if the vibrato corrected what you mentioned.
I hope that reproducing those songs will help me make my original ones later. It must help in a way.
Love the re-make. Ninja Gaiden was always one of my favorites games growing up, although I was never very good. I did a cover of the first stage (city) for the Famitracker wiki, but it didn't sound correct as I had not used Famitracker very long at that point. I'll put my corrected version here. Maybe we can start a Ninja Gaiden soundtrack re-make huh?
Thanks for the comment. Ninja gaiden is my favorite series on the nes. I must know the songs almost by heart from the first and second one. Never really played that much the 3rd one.
As for your song, it's almost perfect. There a few notes here and there to be corrected but it's almost there. Sorry if I sound hard, it just that I love Ninja gaiden music so much that I'm very strict when listening to covers
How did you approach it? Did you make completely by hear? For me, since my goal was to learn how to track songs similar to ninja gaiden, I took the original song, used nsfplay and analyzed how they made it. Then with the information, I tried to see how to remake in famitracker. This mean I analyzed volumes, channels one by one, checked all note, listened the notes slowed down and remade them. I cannot read the notes shown on the screen so I had to listen and try to find on the keyboard where the note is
As for remaking the soundtrack... That would be interesting but that would mean less time programming my nes game engine I will think about it.
Damn! I went through and corrected the notes from the first part. I'll go through the second half of the song later. Making tracker music is like doing math. Sometimes a misplaced note can throw the whole thing off and then I have to comb through the entire song again to figure out which few notes I missed. Thanks for pointing that out. I use both nsfplay and NSF live to playback the NSFs. I like nsfplay because I can see all the notes. With NSF Live though, I can isolate each channel. I then record the music into wav files and analyze them in a music editor. It was a slow process at first, going over every note of a song, but I am getting much better at as I go.
Edit: Just a min or two late, looks like there is a corrected version, awesome!
If your aim is very exact covers, you can use this method to check for wrong notes and other mistakes: record (all or single channel) original track and your track to WAV files. Overlay them in any audio editor, synchronize them, and then you'll able to hear difference easily. You can also pan original and your track to L/R optionally.

? In Nsfplay, I can isolate specific channels. You cannot do it from where it shows the note, that part doesn't work. If you look in the menu, there is one extra dialog allowing you to do that.
Sorry, I have NSFPlug for winamp not NSFPlay. I believe NSFPlay is the stand alone player based on NSFPlug.
Yes, nsfplay is the standalone player. I use NSFPlug too and they have the same features. Click on winamp, press alt-3 and a pop-up window will be shown. Go in the second menu and select the second option, which is the channel mask. This should allow to you to listen to specific channels only.
If the song is already running, the disabled channel will not be stopped right away because of buffering. I use both version (nsfplug/nsfplay) and they work the same. I usually open the channel mask and the keyboard at the same time.
There is also a track from Ninja Gaiden up on the Famitracker wiki besides mine. I also did one for Ninja Gaiden 2, but it needs to be redone as I left some parts out from before.
