Wow...been a bit since my last post(s), hasn't it?

Well, I decided to cover the "Underwater in Blubble Lake (Inside Bowser)" theme that rarely anybody has given a listen to, so [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdjbRe8YN8g]here's a link to what the original sounds like to get you all up to speed. This was more than just one of my normal covers, since I'm used to doing complex things and filling everything in with wild notes and all that happiness you all know I can do. Unlike those covers, this one was...different. The song itself is somewhat empty, but when combined with how it plays, it's actually welcomed. It's hard to make a relatively empty sounding song and make it have a huge effect. To me, it's one of my favorite pieces from the game.

The cover itself is...well, I experimented to see how I could capture the emptiness but still make it sound...presentable. To me, this was a very unique challenge since this was out of my normal comfort zone. Experimentation was going to happen because of this. If I said anymore, I'd just be rephrasing everything I said before. Instead, just take a listen and judge for yourselves. Enjoy.

Question I'm not making a poll because...they hate me anyways: Have you tried to actually cover an empty...ish song and try to keep it loyal to the original in that regard?

This is amazing...
I'm not familiar with the soundtracks to the Mario RPGs as I have never played them, but this tune is magnificent, and your cover captures the "emptiness" of the original edition.

If I have covered a song with that kind of emptiness... I honestly don't remember

This makes me sad, in a good way.

I had this game when I was younger and finished it with full levels on everything, which I had spent two months on. Then after some cousins visit... it dissapears.

This was one of my favorite songs from the game aswell. Really good. c:

Empty songs is something that people probably should appreciate more since they can bring a certain feeling easier than what other songs can do. I think I might have composed something similar but they usually are just SFXs or just one instrument playing (like a Music Box).

This cover is pretty nice, but those pitch bends really bothers me since you're not using any Qxy, Rxy or 3xx effects or adding Pxx effects (you're only using them as vibratos). Even though this is in 900BPM, you need to know how to make proper pitch bends.

I still have this game, but I can't play it because my DS's L/R buttons are broken. That's why we have emulators :/

Anyway, this is a pretty good cover, but it needs some work. For instance, the VRC6 pulse channels are one octave too low. Actually, come to think of it, the ENTIRE FREAKIN' SONG is one octave too low. Also, just a suggestion, try moving the flute part to the triangle channel. It would sound a lot more accurate that way. Here is an example of what I'm talking about. (Note: This is not a full cover, just an example.)

EDIT: Fixed loop point.

I can see where you're coming from. Normally, people tend to lean for a pitch-perfect cover, but I...I can't do that all the time. Most of you know that I like to deviate from the original in some way, whether it be tempo, extra parts, etc. To me, the lower pitch is what helps with the emptiness without anything sounding too annoying, as I've had issues listenting to 8-bit covers with high pitched notes. To be fair, though, the triangle flute is a genius suggestion.

Something tells me that I'll be using this quote more often...
