Finally I've finished something!
I really like the soundtracks from all the Mother/Earthbound games. Expect to see more covers by me in the future!

Ha ha! Looks like you did it again! Nice song dude, though I guess it was pretty hard to work with the S5B, especially the envelopes. Still, this sounds really good.

[I think I should try to make another S5B cover]

Thank you!
I should remind you that you still haven't given me feedback from Sonic!

I forgot to give credit to RushJet1 for helping me with the DPCM samples!

I love how out of tune the 5B tends to be. Good job with this.

Yeah, maybe it's because the frequency of the bass is usually not the same as the frequency of actual notes, but I guess you already know about this (if my calculations are correct). But that's something I like about this expansion chip too.

I'm looking forward to your Space Harrier!

This could easily have been done with the VRC6 expansion instead of the 5B. And it would've been much less of a hassle, too, I think. And you wouldn't have had to use an unsupported expansion to make it. ;)

Still, good job nevertheless!

EDIT: Here's my VRC6 answer to this cover.

Yeah, I already knew that. The reason why I chose 5B over VRC6 is mostly because of another shape for the bass.
There's this shape that looks something this: /\/\/\/\ (I think it's J0E)
I first thought that this shape would sound pretty close to the one that the original song uses (if you take a look at the SPC file), but unfortunately, it turned out to sound more like a grunting pig.
I was actually starting to think if I should have done a N163 cover to make this ftm even more accurate, but I decided to use this sawtooth-ish shape and continue with it. And I probably would have chosen N163 over VRC6 anyway.

Anyway, I'm glad you liked it!

Btw, the volume envelopes in VRC6 pulses are a bit weird now.

Yeah, I had to alter them slightly to account for the fact 5B volumes are logarithmic, whereas VRC6 (and 2A03/MMC5/N163 volumes) are linear. I didn't really put much time or effort into making it sound exactly the same, quite frankly; this was more like a proof of concept, if you will - a demonstration that the VRC6 could've been used for this. :p

EDIT: I've "improved" your module slightly (apologies for the .txt; I do not have the hack that allows for saving 5B modules). Let me know what you think!

Hah, very funny!

Btw, does the Pxx effects really work for the envelope in Square 1?
(I honestly don't know why I haven't tried this yet, because then we would get more accurate frequencies)

I didn't understand why you said it was funny until I tried importing the txt back. Apparently, the 5B envelope refuses to work when importing txt files... I suppose it's just one of those things one should expect when using unsupported features.

The Pxx were used to get tones that were more in-tune when combining tone+envelope.

Oh, and I thought you were just joking (especially since you created a instrument called 'Silence'), anyway, I guess you should probably use it, I mean not only for the 5B, but also for the N163.

I have my own "hacked" version of Famitracker to change the N163 mixing method to linear, so I can use use that instead. I don't need Famitracker to make [url=https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/34026765/SUN5B_test_%28good_2%29.nsf]5B music anyway. :p

Yay Earthbound! This is nice.

On a related note, a while back I helped MrFTBN make a cool FDS Kraken: [url=http://famitracker.com/forum/posts.php?id=1957]http://famitracker.com/forum/posts.php?id=1957

Goddammit! I just had the idea of making this in FDS! I guess I have to do something else and be more creative about this song then. Good job on this, but nghfhjsdbfksdbgsjdhfg...

Well, I've been working on some Mother 1 tracks (Polyanna and Dangerous Foe) and ripping some Mother 3 instruments anyway, so Kraken is very low priority for me.

Hmm, could you upload your build here? I'm interested to try it out!
I assume you used ppmck or something for that song? I really need to at least try ppmck!
