I worked on this for some hours (maybe six or eight?) and I think it had good results. My main focus was on sound quality, not accuracy, since I didn't really base this on the original song, but rather another cover of it I made a few months ago which I sent to FCM10. Also, most of the song was in my memory but I used that old module as a reference since I still had forgotten most of it.

Enjoy, and [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Si0OUoGugs]here is the original song if you haven't heard it before.

This is really nicely done!

Also:

I misread this as "Thak you Thorn!" (There used to be a commercial on Norwegian television about 2-3 years ago where some weird dude got a package from Thorn (A Norwegian online electronics shop), proceeded to face the camera and say "Thank you Thorn!").

Wow, fun fact indeed, I can already visualize that!

Thank you for your comment.

This is a nice tune, especially with the VRC chip used. Marvelous work, Mr_Master :D

Well, I chose the VRC7 because it can produce very smooth and soft sounds, which I think are ideal for these kinds of songs. My previous cover of this song was in N163 and it had a very harsh and choppy sound due to the waveforms and the aliasing, but I still like it. If you want to check it out, it's in [url=posts.php?id=4934]this thread.

Thanks for commenting, by the way, it's very appreciated!

EDIT: FamiTracker forum software, messing with my URL tags again. It's getting pretty annoying. Oh, it should work now.

I'm not hearing any aliasing on it, considering it's only 4-channel. Other than the aliasing inherent in the waveforms. I went and interpolated all of the waveforms in that version and it sounds a lot better now.

Though, I do agree that the VRC7 version sounds a lot better. I prefer the interpolated N163 one personally, but the VRC7 one definitely would sound better to most.

EDIT: Forgot to comment on the cover itself.

A very nice cover, but I find certain parts to be a tiny bit... too soft.

How did you do this? If you did it in FTM, could you please attach one?

Well, it's very soft overall because... the original song goes like that! As I said in the main post, I wasn't going for accuracy but mostly for sound quality (or design perhaps) and since the VRC7 is actually pretty smooth, the sounds I used here are soft.

I appreciate your input and I find curious the fact that you liked the interpolated N163 version over this one. I certainly didn't expect that!

[Well, as I said before, could you please attach the interpolated version to hear it myself?]

I didn't rename the module, sorry if that's confusing, but here it is. I also changed the bass sample altogether to sound less harsh.

EDIT: So, I was just sitting here, and realized I didn't interpolate all of the samples. Also the bass was still harsh. So I guess I fixed that.

It's not confusing at all, don't worry. The bass sounds better and the overall song feels like it sounds a lot cleaner. It's like you removed the background noise or some stuff like that.

This is nice, thanks for the edit.

All I did was smoothened up the samples. It's really an easy thing to do, and it makes N163 songs sound so much better. Plus, not very many people do it, which is extremely confusing. In fact, most people will do the exact opposite.

Making the samples sound as harsh as possible, I'm guilty of that. I have done that thing you made to the samples but I always disliked it and gave them a shape that made them sound a lot more harsh. I think it's because I like my stuff to have a "brighter" sound instead of a muffled one.

Simple solution: don't interpolate linearly. That'll fix the muffled bit really easily.

Linear interpolation? What makes it different from other kinds of interpolation?
