Wanted to register and post what stuff I've done so far. Realized the skill level and standard is extremely high here, so I'm actually put off posting anything since I'm fairly new to FamiTracker myself.

Are there any ways I could improve my skills before posting here? The tutorials are all on the basics like remembering to create instruments and not overwriting your patterns.

The best way to improve is through practice. Think of a good song to cover or to compose, go to FamiTracker, create an instrument and then go to the pattern editor and insert the notes you wish, maybe with some volume control in the volume column or some effects if you like.

Out of that, don't feel intimidated. It's a natural thing to feel like that when you are going to submit something to a community, but only thing you'll do is quitting from it because you think you'll never be as good as them. Trust me, when I started doing this stuff (more than one year now), I felt my music was terrible compared to these other people's music, which put me down for a while. I listened to a lot of stuff here and after many months I started creating my own covers and submitting them here to see what people had to say about them. Thankfully, people here gave me a nice reception and this motivated me to keep making covers and eventually original songs (which never happens, to be honest). There are not "standards" here, the only thing you have to do is being polite, taking your time with your music and your posts and generally just having a good attitude to the rest of the people. This way you will feel like this is some sort of home, where you can ask questions if you are in trouble, show off your music and helping other members of the community.

Forum member danooct1 has some video tutorials in Youtube (I think his username is 8BitDanooct1 there). If you haven't checked them out yet, try searching for those tutorials, they will be of help. Also, read the manual included with FamiTracker and the Wiki in this website, both of which explain almost every detail about using the tracker, and if you have questions about something that isn't detailed there, post here in the forums and people will help you.

I think I can't help you with Hardware sweeps but hopefully other people will do, or you could try searching in older threads to see if you find your answer. Just be careful not to bump them!

Welcome to the forums, I hope you have a good time here, and don't get scared, we are nice people.

Oh, yeah, I'm actually quite a fan of danooct1 for his main channel with virus videos. Caught me by surprise when I realized he was the one who made all those awesome FamiTracker covers. :p

I think I'll make a topic to house what things I feel like I can share.

Thanks for the advice ^-^

My advice for hardware sweeps: Don't use them. I personally find them unreliable as emulation isn't correct and different emulators play these differently. Either way, they're confusing as Pulse 1 and 2 play hardware sweeps differently and it will cause a pop (a bug in Famitracker).

On the contrary, you should probably favour h/w sweeps over s/w sweeps for 2A03 pulse channels. The reason is that s/w sweeps are linear, whereas h/w sweeps are logarithmic; this means h/w sweeps are constant in speed, whereas s/w sweeps will start off really slow in the lower range and gradually become really really fast in the higher octaves. H/w sweeps are useful for making drum-like instruments, I find.

Oh, and welcome to the forums MKSTAR26. Read the rules, don't cause too much trouble and you should be fine! By the way, if you intend to share any of your own work, I suggest doing so in the Show Off Your Work section, as opposed to this thread. Thanks!

Thanks for the welcomes! Forum etiquette here seems similar to the other forums I frequent, so I'll probably be able to stay out of trouble. :3

I was in Ludum Dare 26 and did the same thing!

Anyway back on topic.
To be completely honest, just post your stuff. If it's bad, someone will tell you how to make it better. No one here will completely shit on your tracks. I remember the first time I posted here and I was afraid, but I was excited that someone heard it, and excited that people commented on it. Just keep posting and receiving Constructive Criticism, and everything will go swimmingly [glub].
