So I Have a 5.1 speaker system hooked up to my computer and I've noticed that recently Famitracker will only play from the center channel despite the fact that I have the audio routed to go to all channels. Famitracker seems to be the only program on my computer with this problem. This issue is rather new and I have never had an issue routing the audio for Famitracker. Does anyone have any Idea on what the problem could be?

That's a new problem. I'm not even sure how you managed to configure your other programs to work with 5.1 surround.

If you're on Windows, try going into the Sound applet in the Control Panel, go to the Playback tab & configure the output device itself. You should be able to see an option for surround sound or stereo.

Thanks for the recommendation. I found out that my issue was that under the Window's audio settings I had enhancements turned off. This still does raise a question for me that someone on the forum might be able to answer. On a system that is 5.1 or higher why would Famitracker default to the center channel instead of front left and front Right like most applications do?

Most applications request 2 channel (stereo) output from the OS. Famitracker only does mono sound, so it requests 1 channel. I suspect this is what gets treated differently by your setup, for whatever reason.

If you'd like to compare, [url=http://rainwarrior.ca/projects/nsfplay/]NSFPlay has an option for stereo sound in the settings that you can turn off to see if it has the same problem for you.

It seems that NSFPlay is not effected either when enhancements are turned off and I can still control where it is routed.

With Famitracker being the only program that is effected my only assumption would be that it is bypassing certain aspects of the way my computer handles audio.

Famitracker uses the standard DirectSound interface. The only thing unusual about it is that it uses 1-channel sound output, which is not a common thing to do.

I didn't know that this could cause a problem. I could change the output to stereo instead of mono to avoid this, that would be an easy fix.

Will it change in ANY way possible the sound of the music we write? Hopefully not.

No it wouldn't change the sound, only fix the behavior where a center speaker is used.

Awesome, Cause I am also using 5.1 speakers on my desktop, but lately i've been using this old laptop plugged in a sound stereo, so I actually never noticed if it was only using center speaker.

EDIT, silly me, I forgot that even with a 5.1 setup, I still set it to 2 speakers on my soundblaster options so I would have never noticed.

I exported as a WAV file and put it on my flash drive. I connected it to my home theatre system, and it only plays through center and woofer.

That's because FamiTracker outputs WAV files in mono & not stereo or surround. In this case, I'd say it's how the file itself is encoded. Perhaps you might want to open the file in Audacity & output an MP3 that has the ability to take advantage of your surround system.

Also, a common mistake that even I've done a few times here; you don't need to hit the Reply button repeatedly when the web page hangs (or you'll end up submitting 3 copies of the same reply without the ability to delete them).

elevatorfan7072: either convert the WAV to stereo, or on your sound system turn off the surround or fake-surround feature.
