I don't really think this bothers anyone else, but to me the way Famitracker emulates the VRC7, or its volume changes to be exact sounds off. No matter if it's the 4-bit volume register or the hardware ADSR envelopes, all instruments sound noisy, and crunched especially when played at low volumes.
Listening to [url=https://dl.dropbox.com/u/883356/vrc7_rainwarrior_patch_test.flac]this hardware patch test by rainwarrior, I have to say I'm shocked to find out that the hardware actually produces cleaner sounds than the emulation, especially since older updates used to have the quality closer to the hardware (even if the fixed patches were off back then)

Moreover, this crunchy sound seems to affect the 2A03 when the VRC7 is enabled, and I get that this is supposed to be the difference between the output of the two chips, but I don't think the hardware really works this way, especially the triangle channel. (although it doesn't help that Lagrange point only ever used the triangle channel for a tom in one track)

Nothing's broken or unusable because of this, but I thought I should bring attention to it.

I've planned to improve VRC7 in the future, I've noticed too that the real cart has stronger LP-filtering and that's why it sounds more clean. Perhaps there are other differences too, I don't know yet. I also didn't know it affected 2A03 as well, but that is possible since the internal audio is mixed on the cart.

But the most important difference is that the VRC7 chip (or the reconstruction filter) is clipping a lot when playing channels too loud, this means that songs that sounds fine in the tracker might be unusable when played back on the cart.
