Good work for Special Stage! This is awesome! ^^

For now I'm working on Balloon Park with the new template module.

I have to say this project is looking really good so far, but I can't hold on to two things I wanted to say any longer...

1. I think some of these songs will sound very unbalanced in an NSF player or if played on hardware with a TNS-HFC3 because as things stand, VRC7 emulation and more importantly, the volume balance is not emulated accurately enough (DPCM and noise seem to be somewhat louder than in Famitracker) and the songs that use volumes higher than 12 might sound bad because of the chip clipping. (There is a reason why Lagrange Point tends to keep it around 10 or lower)

2. This really is just my preference. I think that noise snare that is used in conjunction with the sample is a little on the loud side not to mention that it's really long and ends decades after the sample. The new one in the Special Stage I really like though!

Keep it up, and please don't take this to heart, I'm not trying to criticize anything, ultimately it's up to everyone if things should be changed or not. (but I can see why it would be a bitch going back to the speed 1 songs to adjust volume and shit)

Thank you guys, have some Lava Reef 1.

za909, I agree about the unbalancing in NSF players or real hardware. I have played these songs in many players, the main one being NSFPlay, and some of the patches sound a bit different, especially at high feedback levels. There might also be some volume balance differences but I can't tell too accurately since my NSFPlay configuration is tweaked so everything can be heard equally.

The noise snare, I don't like it either, that's why I made instrument 24, to have a shorter noise snare, though it still lasts longer than the sample. I'm amazed that you liked the one I made for Special Stage, I thought it wasn't very good.

[REDACTED]

From now on, please include songs only in the template module since the main one has to be split so it fits within the 1MB limit (you can upload a lot of files, this is the limit for each one of them). When we have every song ready, perhaps some of us can include the full module in a permanent, external download.

QUESTION: I was uploading an MP3 file to my Dropbox folder and wanted to ask if you guys would agree if I upload the main module and MP3s for each song in there. Of course, proper credit will be given since most of the works in this project aren't even mine.

EDIT2: I realized the original song had vibrato on those long notes, so I added it to the track.

Angel Island had a timing mistake on FM channels 3/4 in frame 00/02, fixed that.

Nice, I see what was the mistake. Once the main module(s) get updated, I'll add you to the credits.

Thank you for the edit.

What's a good collab without Rushjet1?

Great job handling so far, Mr_Master. As for splitting the module, I say that once I have a new template ready that is more logically set up, all the new songs go there. Then again, this would be confusing for the people listening. But that's what Ctrl+F is for, right?

za909, I actually never had a Famicom/NES seeing as I'm 13, so someone else will have to test the hardware balance. The snare was meant to be an Open Hihat / Snare combo as I made it for Angel Island 1, which has an Open Hihat wherever there is a snare. I'll probably adjust it to have more of a hihatty sound to it, though.

As for the uploading to MP3, I'm personally okay with it. And so that issues like this don't come up again, I ask that anyone who has work in this project will come here and post their permission for anyone, not just us, to do whatever (s)he wants with the module or any exports/derivatives. Basically, the CC-BY license except that we don't actually own anything. If you want anything removed, just post and it will be removed to the extent possible.

Then, for the moment I can upload my stuff and yours. If anyone else wants or doesn't want their songs to be uploaded to my Dropbox folder, let me know. If I get everyone's approval, I'll also post the module itself into it.

Anyone can use my stuff as long as credit is given, that's all I ask for.

I'll wait for the split module to keep managing this thing. For the moment, I'll do any songs in a template so I can include them in the project file later. Lava Reef and Special Stage are done as promised, so I'll see what I can do next. I would attack Mushroom Hill 2 if no one else is doing so at the moment.

EDIT: I think a good idea would be to split the module into two parts which would contain the following:

Part 1, contains the main songs, like SEGA!, Title Screen, File Select, all zones and bosses (credits optional).

Part 2, it could contain the bonus songs, special stage, credits and all those jingles like Emerald Get, Invincibility, Extra Life and others.

This would be very similar to what danooct1 did, but it's not that I'm trying to fully mimic his model. I think it would actually be the best way to split the module.

you're free to do whatever. the only reason I split my module into two parts in the first place is because there was a bug in whichever version of famitracker I was using. once the module got above a certain size it would start deleting songs and data stored at the end of the module, so i decided to break it into two pieces. good luck finishing this project

Thanks for that, then I'll try to split it today. Hope I get it right!

I knew about that bug and when I read the thread's description the first time, I immediately understood why he split it, but now it's because of file size.

Dan, if you read this, thank you for your support.

EDIT: I split the module into three parts consisting more or less what I said before. There's one labeled as "Other", because I don't know what to do with those songs.

As expected, it's organized in more or less the same fashion as danooct1's S3K modules.

This is the last time I'm uploading the full module. From now on, I'll include the split parts [not sure what to do with Part 3 (Other)] and one template which would be almost the same, unless there's the need to remove instruments from one of the parts, in which case I'll include a template for each one of them.

EDIT2: I'll work later on a list of songs to be included in each one of the modules. I plan to get rid of Part 3 (other) by including those songs in the two main modules, but I don't know where I should put them, so for now I'll keep them there.

I'll do the following: Each part will contain a list of the songs included in the comments, along with full credits. I'll also post the list here once, so people can read it before downloading.

Errr, I think... I forgot the DPCM samples. Updated the modules.

EDIT3: Who's the most stupid guy ever!? ME! I didn't include Rushjet1's fix into the modules. It's now fixed, sorry for that!

Yeah, I'm curious about how danooct1 found out about this. Thanks for the support, danooct1!

Anyways, I decided that I'd do a few songs. I figured that I would start off with a few of the short songs.

What he added so far were all the emerald jingles, the No Way! song, and Sonic 3's Knuckles theme. He won't admit that I helped him with the samples, though. =V

I added the S3 All Clear and added a bit to Endless Mine, by the way.

Hm, as I know, that last song in the module has a different sample playing after looping a lot of times. Also, why not use noise support for DPCM?

The new songs are cool, definitely looking forward to see Endless Mine finished!

Hm, as I said, I might work on Mushroom Hill 2. I also feel I should leave part of the soundtrack for other people to have a chance to work on it, but I'm not so sure. I feel I have stolen myself a significant part of the soundtrack by making songs and also through the editing of other tracks, but at the same time, it's more or less defined who is taking part in this, though it's definitely not late if anyone else wants to contribute. Anyone who can guide me on this?

I'll let FlashingYoshi get back to you on this one.

As for Endless Mine, it loops just fine at this point, but the background piano parts are very VERY hard to get right. What I've done is open it in Audacity, split the two tracks to mono, and invert one of them so that only the piano parts play. Then I slow it down by 50%. But even then it's really hard to get right.

I don't know what to say for this, and it's ultimately your own decision. At this point, I think the same thing, that it's pretty much set who's working a lot on this and who's not. Just do as much as you feel like doing, really. If you wrote most of the OST, I wouldn't have stopped you, and if you did almost nothing then I wouldn't have nagged you either (well, not that much anyways ).

I meant to post here a while ago. Great work, everyone! I wish I could contribute more, but I've been extremely busy lately, with time to only eat and sleep when I get home, in most cases.

I have to ask, what's going on with Chrome Gadget? It sounds a bit different than the original module I uploaded before. Some techniques are used that I never used myself, such as the already-mentioned Noise channel snare.

Hm, as far as I can tell, poodlecock applied triangle bass, noise snares and probably (but not necessarily) some instrument changes. It's intended to boost bass and percussions or maybe correct the misuse of some instruments and change them for something that sounds better, though that might rarely happen.

This is how we are currently handling things here, but if you wish your song to be reverted to its original form, let us know and we'll change it in the modules. This goes for everyone who has posted a song here.

I remember having corrected some importing mistakes in your song, though I don't know if I double-checked it to see if it sounded the same. If there's anything you wish to be changed, you may do it yourself and post it here or tell us if you don't have the time to do that, or for any other reasons.

By the way, I wish you good luck in your personal stuff.
