But you both seem to have missed Special Stage. I want to do that too, but for the moment it's no problem if someone else wants to work on it since I don't know if I'll start anytime soon.
Anyway, we are almost there. In not much time we have managed to cover a substantial part of the OST and I don't think it would take too long to have it ready, especially when there are many people willing to work on more songs to add to the project. Everyone has done a great work, these songs are amazing.

Here's my point of view:
2A03/Classical, I consider it too minimalistic for the magnitude of the covers we would make, since the original songs use nine channels and we are only provided two pulses, a triangle and a noise (DPCM if not classical).
MMC5, the same, but at least we would have two more channels to work with, which makes it a little more possible.
N163, there's a catch here. Since the more channels you activate, the worst the sound, it would mean that the overall quality wouldn't be so high, though it would be very possible due to the fact that we are provided multiple channels. Only thing that would be hard is the waves, but at least we can use custom waves in all channels.
S5B, would be interesting but I can't say much because I lack knowledge about the chip.
VRC6, already done by danooct1, discarded.
FDS, same rule for 2A03 applies in this case. Too little channels to work with.
VRC7 has worked fine up to now and I don't see why we should change it. Some people (Fezuke, for instance) didn't have much experience with the chip and did awesome stuff with it.
I would work with either S5B, N163 or VRC7, though remember that this is only my point of view. Of course other people will see it differently.
Hey poodlecock, the reason why I put Sonic 3 Title screen is because the one I'm used to hearing isn't in the ftm. I'm wondering if the version you covered is maybe a european track? You can hear the version i'm talking about in the dropbox I posted in my previous post.
I can see two title screen songs, which are S3K and Sonic 3's ones in the file you provided. The one in the FTM is the Sonic 3 title screen, the S3K song is still missing since it hasn't been done yet.
Maybe you got confused? I actually find strange the fact that there's the Sonic Retro song in the module, which I don't know if it has any relation to the project we are working on.
Alright, well be sure to keep us informed if a Sonic 2 one starts off, I'll be sure to contribute something! Also I've done a Sunsoft themed Mystic Cave cover but never posted it anywhere. You can get and idea of 2A03 covers this way I guess.
1.- I added triangle bass to the following tracks: Mushroom Hill, Sandopolis 1 and Azure Lake. I left Marble Garden 1 untouched because I think that I would need to do many changes if I wanted to add the triangle bass, like changing the bass patch in VRC7 and perhaps the note lengths. For now I'll leave it how it is.
2.- I don't know if I did correctly, but I also tried to clean up the patterns in Mushroom Hill because there were some effects duplicated along channels (Fxx for instance), though there are still duplicate instances of it along the patterns.
3.- I did a little edit on Fezuke's Sandopolis. There was a note missing in the bassline at the end of frame 09 (it's a B-1, row B4 in FM channel 2 and triangle). It's not too noticeable, I think, but I did it for the sake of accuracy.
Next up is Special Stage, I'll try to have it ready within this week, though for now I don't promise anything. Still, it's a short song so I don't think it's much of a trouble!

I corrected a small mistake in the song: in frame 04, rows 06 and 26, FM channel 4 had a A#4 note which I changed to a G#4 because that's how it is in the original song. Nothing big, just for accuracy!
Special Stage is in progress, I may actually have it ready later or within a few days.
A small warning: The main module is getting closer to the file size limit allowed by the forum software (1 MB = 1000 KB if I remember correctly), which means trouble because we'll have to split it in two parts. This can cause problems with the instruments held by each module because some might have to be deleted, because we are also getting closer to the instrument limit.
It might be hard to split them without creating inconsistencies, but I'm sure we'll be able to do so.
EDIT2: Yeah, I finished Special Stage! Only problem, I added three new instruments, so we are even closer to the limit, but still, what is in the file is almost enough for the songs that still aren't done. Eight new instruments can be added to the module.
The file is pretty big now, so please include new songs in the template module. For now, I'll try to figure out how to split this thing so it remains consistent.
