[url=http://forums.nesdev.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1005]naruko's findings state that there is another revision of the mapper chip that may have the same (or similar) function to N163. The lower number indicates and earlier revision.

He says that the aliasing on 8ch N129 sounds worse, but rainwarrior seems to believe that there are pitch differences and the aliasing is the same.

jrlepage: Maybe we can find you an N129 cart? The link in this post shows a post that has a Star Wars PCB scanned by naruko that has a N129 chip.

The behaviour is clearly very similar, but there are those curious bits where it bugs out. Possibly its audio circuit is just a failed prototype.

Yeah this seems very similar to 163, so likely an earlier revision.

Well, I just won myself a [url=http://www.ebay.com/itm/Star-Wars-Namco-Famicom-NES-JP-GAME-/400534374542?]Star Wars cart with an N129 (hopefully) in it.

Likely a resistor suitable for 8 channels will have to be installed for our purposes before I send it to you.

Hopefully so, man. Hopefully so. Well, good luck on the N129, B00daW, and share what you find with us.

(Also, I think that the sound chip there is a prototype that has problems. If it has key differences that people may want to take advantage of, then I say, Add it to Famitracker! But if it does not, then oh well. We all learned something new.)

That's amazing. Do you want me to pay for the expenses B00daW?

Also how about a potentiometer instead of a resistor? You know, the kind that you have to use a tiny screwdriver to adjust? That would make it possible to play any N163 tune with acceptable mixing.

I was thinking the same thing after I posted. The ones in BootGod's database are both epoxy blob carts. Hopefully we luck out on this one. If we do, it'd be nice if I got a little help with the shipping. Shipping to Canada these days is a little expensive. I also have the Family Aerobics cart too. You could write PPMCK MML and write directly to the registers with it to trigger the samples if you so desired. I have a good idea how the register works. PPMCK and a TNS-HFCx together should help determine the rest of its behaviors; even though they are documented in the datasheet.

I'd be happy to help you pay to ship the carts to Canada, if that's all you need. (:

As for triggering the Family Aerobics cart, you're gonna have to give me a bit of help, since I know basically nothing about that one.

Likely not. It's probably a newer Nxxx series under the blob since it's a later production model of the cartridge. It *may* still audio hardware in it, but it's likely not a true N129.

My cart is silver and it came in a Genesis-like cart box. Maybe we can pinpoint characteristics for the N129 older model cartridges.
