I've run in to a bit of a dilemma.

I can't seem to make silly music, it always ends with something that doesn't sound silly at all.

And, I have to make speedup music for a new web show* a couple friends are making, which needs to sound silly, but the silliest thing I've ever made goes from kinda silly, to nothing silly at all.

So, my question is (and don't hold out on big words and advanced jargon unless I ask for an explanation of something): what exactly would be the entirely theoretical way to make something that would be fast and sound silly-ish?

Get inspired...listen to lots of polka, caliope/circus music, the Residents, Zappa, maybe a little Dixieland jazz, etc. Just really odd feeling stuff.

Compositionally speaking, use wide pitch bends/slides and chromatic scale flourishes...basically things that make the music sound "wacky". Maybe start with a melody or progression that sounds mood appropriate and go from there.

Hope you find what you're looking for.

Arp macro of -1 0
Major keys
You can also use short bursts for volumes like 5 5 0 instead of a long fadeout
Do NOT use drum fills if you have any percussion going on. Keep the rhythm flat and repetitive.
Do NOT use emotion evoking harmony

Needs moar cowbell. And accordion. And unfitting snares. And channels.

What's the web show about, anyways, because an 8-bit song might not be the most fitting, for the most part. You have skill, I'm not saying you don't, so try making something in MilkyTracker with crappy samples and post it here for our enjoyment and lulz.

I delete crappy samples on sight. I only work with top-of-the-line [size=1][color=black]snes rips in milky

LOL. But often crappy samples are the best way to make something sound goofy.

Well, didn't need CRAP samples per se, just used the generic brass instrument from yoshi's island.

All of the samples is one sample, and no. This is for speedups, not something of great amusement.

Good, now add out-of-place drums and hi-pass filter it.

Better? Also applied bass boost in hopefully non-ridiculous amount (200 hz +60db) to compensate for losses :)))))))))
