I've been messing around with Famitracker since... *looks at YouTube* Well, at August 4th, it will have been 3 years. Anyways, I've been having some of the best times working on musically based works, particularly covers. I would always find ways to improve songs--mostly from 2A03 to VRC6, mind you--and I always had so many ideas as to how things could possibly work.

I'm afraid that my passion has turned into a curse, though. Lately, whenever I hear a song, I can only think about how it can be better. I somehow reverted back to RushJet1's Mega Man 3 Soundtrack and suddenly found myself attempting to revive a dead project (which some projects are on standby until I get right in the head again).

Since then, it only got worse. It moved from video game songs to "actual" songs and I started immediately tweaking with the Pulse to make a twangy Acoustic Guitar. I even tried a few other things that I will not admit yet, but it all revolved around the point that I've been only trying to improve instead of appreciating what is already in front of me. I have a few friends that commemorate me for my work, but say that the original was first and was already good.

The only reason that I haven't been working directly with Famitracker is because of computer situations. My XP died, my laptop's been dead, and the rest of them are password locked. The only time I can work on Famitracker is after class or, if there's a computer in the classroom, during. Despite this, I've always kept tabs with the community and my friend lets me download .ftms and use Famitracker on his computer to do so every now and again, though I'm typically too busy with him to work on anything.

I bring all of this up because I'm starting to get a bit crazy. After nearly three years, I have Famitracker skills that, when I began, I only dreamed about. Now that I have the skills, my mind feels as if it is slipping. Should I immediately continue with Famitracker after class and see if I can make yet another cover or should I just take a break and get away from everything for a couple weeks? I mean, classes are going as good as they could--I'm the best in my Public Speaking Class, a feat I thought I could never achieve, so it's not like it's an educational reason or anything.

I'm sorry...I just haven't been a self-thinker in a while :/

Oh no! This is bad! As much as I hate to say it, because it would mean me not getting to hear any of your covers for a while (maybe even an original or two?) but I think you might should hold off on making music of ANY sort for a while. Life is better with music, and if you can't appreciate music, you might should not work on any, and maybe even listen to any, for a while.

I know I couldn't handle not making music for any real amount of time; Famitracker (now FL studio and SunVox are added into the mix) is what I do mainly.

Good luck, whatever you decide to do.

We all go through this phase. As Xyz mentioned, it's probably time to switch to something new. OR you could write more originals. That's where the real challenge and fun is.
