I've been playing around with the MIDI import, and I've noticed that it's a bit buggy with the extra sound channels; sometimes, adding them to a song results in them being added full of garbage. The MIDI importer also doesn't like to be closed without importing a MIDI; it makes FamiTracker crash...
Also... have you considered adding, say, the ability to choose the import tempo and stuff? When I import MIDIs, I notice that they usually either have the wrong timing, or miss notes in places. Choosing things like the song import speed might help (not sure, though). On another though, have you thought about letting you choose the extra channels for MIDI imports? It's kinda hard to import every bit of a song separately and then to go and put it into the extra channels...
On another sidenote (although I think I've gone on for a bit long)... why not add the ability to import other module files; like IT, or XM? If you kept them within certain limitations, they'd probably be easy to get working... but I'm no programmer, so I'm really just making guesses.
I did question them into it, but it is not on the top priority list, Plus it might take JSR (and his team, if he has one.) a lot of reprogramming for Famitracker to do that,
Plus the samples are the problem with module files,
The MIDI importer was added years ago and hasn't been updated since, and the problem is that lots of other things has priority right now. Even if I did update it, it won't be much better than it is now due to the inherent limitations (I can't even remembed why I originally added it). Best is to use the pattern editor from start to create tunes. IT and XM would probably not be hard, but there is already a tool that does this.
