Just thought I'd put this here.

EDIT: This is my first FamiTracker module.

ANOTHER EDIT: Fixed title, it now says "MMC5" like it's supposed to.

Do you have any prior experience? I'm very impressed! Now for the actual criticism:
[ol]
[li]The chip name is MMC5, not MMC2. Just a nitpick, really.[/li]
[li]The DPCM drums are a bit soft for my taste. And for doubling up the kick, use the noise 2-# and for the snare, 8-#. Something I learned from danooct1.[/li]
[li]Tilt your DPCM samples. This is very important for MMC5 modules, where the Triangle is often used for bass.[/li]
[li]The chorus effect could have been done easily with one instrument by using the effect P7E or P7F. You should have used this for the echoes in Pulse 2 for the MMC5. Though don't get rid of the delay, but make it 3 rows behind instead of 4.[/li]
[li]Utilize the channels more. Pulses 1 and 2 for the MMC5 were used pretty much just the octave up parts when they could have played the counter-melodic parts in Pulse 1 for the 2a03.[/li]
[/ol]
Good job otherwise. And a quick story: [url=http://famitracker.com/forum/posts.php?id=4482]the first thing I posted was a rickroll disguised as a Splash Hill Zone cover. =P

EDIT: Woah! First FTM module? Nice!

Here's the new version, which implements a few of poodlecock's suggestions.

About that DPCM stuff, though: First of all, I tried making the DPCM samples louder, but it sounded wrong. Also, how exactly do I "tilt" a DPCM sample?

First of all, great edit, It improves on the sound of the original, which I rather liked anyway. Second, though I've never heard it called "tilting" but I'm not one of the pros that wander these forums. I believe he means the Zxx command. Placing a Zxx command will, I think, accomplish the desired effect. Although, I'd have to ask to find out what xx to use.

Of course the DPCM by itself will sound wrong! But the noise part will round off the higher frequencies, so to a certain level, it should sound right in the song. But when it sounds distorted then you stop jacking it up. If you don't understand any of this, use +7 dB gain.

EDIT: As for tilting, edit the sample, select the very end of the sample in the editor, and click Tilt at the bottom. Repeat until the Delta end pos.: thing says a low number. This will help the triangle and noise volume, which is needed in a MMC5 or 2A03 cover where bass is usually in the triangle channel.

Epic module of the year!

Seriously though, I think you nailed the chorus effect, it sounds very nice. It was also a nice change to see you added some noise percussions to the song, because they can help compensating the loss of quality that happens when you convert a sample to DPCM.

I'll also add to the previous subject (about tilting samples) that you can actually use the Zxx effect in order to set the "DPCM delta counter" to the value you wish (given by the xx parameter). I have to warn you though that this will produce a very annoying click when you use it, so avoid it if possible or do very fast and subtle changes to it, since the pop is produced when there's a big jump between the values you put there (for example, having a delta counter of 50 and setting it to 00 via the Zxx effect). The lower value the "delta counter" has, the louder your triangle and noise will sound. Use the DPCM editor "tilt" feature to modify the delta counter until it hits a low value (being 00 the lowest). This way, as poodlecock said, after your sample is played, it will restore the volume of the triangle and noise channels.

[CheeseGuy99, there's a more detailed explanation of what the Zxx effect does. No need to be sad]

There are plenty of people here who will be willing to help you when you need it, so just ask if you want some help. Have a late welcome to the forums and I hope you have fun!

Oops, forgot to A) change all instances of instrument 01 to instrument 00, and B) change the pitch-shift effect to compensate.

I have the update. It should sound pretty much identical to the previous version, except the chorus in the second part is different. Also, I dummied out instrument 01, hopefully not breaking anything in the process.

I know that I'm always nit-picking, but here are 3 things:

1. Use P81 for Pulse 1 on the MMC5. In the last 2 frames it will cancel with the main lead.

2. Instrument 01 is still used on the Triangle channel in some frames. To check if all instances are removed, go to Edit -> Clean up -> Remove unused instruments

3. For the last note in the chorus (C-5), add in a P7F because with a P7E it sounds too whiny. The P7E works for the rest of the song, though.

And that's it from me.

Guess what time it is?

You guessed it! Time for me to post another edit!

This one implements poodlecock's second set of suggestions.
