This is my first post on here, but I've been using FamiTracker for a while on an old Windows box. I use a Mac for all of my mixing and it would be a lot easier to use FamiTracker on there so I could have all my music stuff on one system.
Virtualization loads up FamiTracker via VMware, but it's a bit sluggish (the sound has a weird stagger to it when trying to reproduce notes). I've heard that FamiTracker runs with Wine, and have attempted to do it via the Wine Bottler Wine Wrapper which will use Wine to allow FT to run as a native Mac App on an Intel Mac. I get to the point of seeing the FT gui but then I get an error message regarding the sound card and it quits. Has anyone else successfully tried running FamiTracker via Wine, and if so, what did you do to get it to run?
Hold on, because I noticed that you posted in two different threads about this.
Firstly, if you're running VMware on a Windows host, you need to remember that you're only running your guest OS at NEAR-native speed. VMware itself takes a lot of overhead when you run it, so the best way to get closer to native speed is to have extremely high-end specifications for your computer (like 16 GB RAM, quad-core CPU that can clock over 2.5 GHz, etc.).
Secondly, for Macs, the best way to achieve native speed for a Windows program on a Mac is to either use Parallels or VMware Fusion. WINE has got to be the most horrendous way yo try running Windows programs on a Mac.
Optionally, you can wait for the Qt port of FamiTracker.
