This isn't 100% accurate, I was aiming for the gist of it only; most was from memory. And an extra song...

EDIT: 2A03 fix (had wrong instrument... :)

It's Starry Night Zone from Sonic 1 Megamix. Really great soundtrack, and this is an equally fantastic cover!

Yeah, it's one of the original tracks from an unreleased version of the (in)famous mod Sonic 1 Megamix.

A lot is happening in the lives of Team Megamix. Each member is dealing with their own personal circumstances, including but not limited to moves and major job opportunities. This has put Megamix on hiatus, but we're far from finished. Be patient; we want this as much as you do
EDIT: Why don't any of my stuff get replies? Maybe I shouldn't have chosen the name poodlecock...

Yeah I really should post more around here. I try my best to, but rest assured that I listen to EVERY .ftm that is in the forums. Just that i'm more of a listener than a critic. I did listen to this and it sounds really good. Nothing to point out that sounds wrong.

Can't say I'm familiar with the original, but this sounds really good. Not really much to critique, I really like it. I really like the snare sample you used!

You know, I haven't posted in a while but I have come to say a few things:

The songs are alright, nothing weird sounding and they are very pleasant. Loved the use of portamento in the VRC6 version of Starry Night.

This is better than your usual works, so I may just guess that all this time you were out of the forums you were practicing and improving your skills.

Your user name is hilarious for me, but I have to admit that I thought it was nasty sounding and it always brought a strange creature to my mind when I saw it the first days. Maybe you should go and draw some fancy mix between a poodle doggy and a cock (the animal!) in Paint and make the result your avatar. And you seriously need one! I like you and some of your (sometimes thoughtful) posts and your music and even that signature of yours. Your name isn't for me something to actually keep me from posting in your threads but most of the time I don't really want to and I don't post a thing (and that happens to me all the time). Please keep that username, I still like it!

And that's all. I don't know the original song but I think I know what I could expect from it. You have improved, and I'm glad to see you have done so during the time you weren't here (I assume). This is a great song dude! Keep tracking!

[Hey, your DPCM is cool. I wish my samples were like that]

Neato!

I'd put a bit more release on what sounds to be the 'bell' sound so it has a longer lasting sound. Nothing really comes to mind otherwise!

Thanks, Fezuke! You should start working on more stuff; I haven't seen anything from you lately!

Thanks! It's actually just the Sonic 2 drumset I use and the 0Beat, but now that I have better Sonic 3 rips, I will start using those... along with having to fix my noise snares to accommodate for the lower pitch! D= You can use them, if you want, though.

Nah, I wasn't improving much, I was just really busy. And really, most of my previous works I only spent short times on (I probably would have been kicked out of the DemoCompo if I told everyone it literally took me 2.5 hours to finish my entries - and I didn't end up last!) and they were mostly just experiments on new techniques (I usually use Sonic 2 DPCM drums, and I double it up with noise.) My VRC6 technique is mostly borrowed straight from danooct1 (many of the older members will remember him as a controversial character...): Double up on DPCM and Noise drums, use Tri+Saw bass with the triangle 2 octaves up. (The sound is one octave, though... I never got why they halved the clock for the Triangle.) The one thing that he does that I don't do is use a blank instrument and spam the effects... This is effective for really big FTMs but you lose control in the process.

Thanks! I was thinking of drawing a mixture between a poodle and a rooster for some time actually, but, like I said, I've been busy. Come to think of it, I'll start up right now! (BTW, I got that name from the song which I covered for DemoCompo: brentalfloss's MegaMan 3 Game Over with Lyrics...

You can use them, if you wish. Like I said, they are ripped from Sonic 2 - actually, I first ripped them from Sonic Megamix, then I imported them into Famitracker.

This is why I prefer using DPCM drums over DPCM Sunsoft-styled bass. You don't have to worry about tuning the way you do about DPCM bass, it saves space, and IT MAKES THE SONG SOUND BETTERZ!!!!!!one!!!!!!eleven!!!!!!

And if you guys are curious, yes I have been working on something, NO I will not tell you what it is.

EDIT: Damn, I should read everything over before posting! DalekSam, I totally agree! It sounds better! However, the echoing part kind of halts it, so I moved the starting note of the echo back. Thanks for the suggestion!

And might as well release the fixes so far, as well as a WIP and a cancelled track. But this is not what I've really been working on.

Nice DPCM echo! Some techniques make it sound like something other than a VRC6, although I noticed the engine speed was doubled (almost, 121 Hz).

As a suggestion, you can make adjustments by 1 when you have a slide bar at a dialog like the engine speed one. Click on the slide bar and then use the arrows to change the engine speed by one. I'm telling you this because you may have not known that since the engine speed is set to 121 Hz and not 120. Patashu taught me that!

Last time I listened to these songs I did it using the laptop speakers, but now I was wearing my headphones and I have to tell you this is more awesome than I thought. Keep tracking!

[I would like to see that other track of yours once you release it]

LOL I hadn't noticed that I doubled the engine speed the whole time! No wonder the portamento was so fast! (And it certainly helps the PWM in the Shadow Ending theme...) I'll try to finish this first...

I think doubling the engine speed worked pretty good here. It made the song sound cooler than it would have sounded at 60 Hz.

Also, congratulations on getting an avatar! It looks great!
