hey, here's a link to some songs i've put together over the last year or so. was wondering what people think. any feedback (good or bad) would be appreciated. i'm going through other people's posts and will return the love. thanks.
thanks, for the feedback. the "Sad Octopus" ones are two of my favorites so i'm glad those stood out to you as well. i usually draw a blank on what to name these so i just pick whatever pops into my head - probably not the best approach.
since you mention that i have "potential" i was wondering, is there anything composition-wise from what you heard that you think could improve? like, did you find any of the melodies bland, or were they able to keep your interest throughout the whole song?
I must say that, in Round 1, your Cabbage tune is lacking in variation, even though the beginning of the song could have made for an interesting introduction to something bigger & more dramatic.
Your Forbidden Corndog does have more variation in melody & instrumentation, but the volume is too low; you can't really differentiate between the different instruments at times & they sometimes drown each other out.
Your Hall Of Butt Cracks (holy crap; what a hilarious title) really sounds like something out of [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLPnOrRBYig]that old Tekken 2 NES pirate game, if only you had better volume control in this too.
The main problem you have in about 33% of your songs, in my opinion, is proper volume adjustment & melodic variation. These problems don't appear in your other non-chiptune works, so all I can suggest is to practice using FamiTracker as you would a synthesizer or some other complex instrument. Another thing to consider is, once you master FamiTracker as your instrument, try to apply the same music theory that you do with your other conventional works.

thanks again, TechEmporium. a recent bandmate of mine also expressed that i often don't fully explore melodic ideas to their full potential, and it's helpful to get that feedback from more than one source. i can see i'm becoming more comfortable with FamiTracker and utilizing a larger variety of sounds the more i use it. i'll definitely keep an ear out for the level issues you mentioned.
Mind you, it's not just the fact that you're using a larger variety of sounds; it has a lot to do with how you make those sounds flow in a way that can manipulate the listener's emotions.
