I was wondering because I'm a new indie game developer and I can't compose anything to save my life. I'm working on getting a couple of small games done this year, but these projects need music. I can't afford to spend a lot of money, but I am willing to make some deals here and there.

Also, I have a couple of fan games I work on on the side that could a little chiptune love as well, but those would be on a volunteer basis... well, unless it comes down to releases being on hold because I'm missing a few songs, then I'd probably fork over some cash to get some covers done.

Can you provide any details on what you need? What sound you are looking for, how many songs you need, what kind of game you are making, and that sort of thing. Is there a deadline for when you need it done?

I'd be happy to try and compose something for you, you can check out my work on my soundcloud.

Also, if you could provide some screenshots of your game that would be very helpful!

Welp. Right off the bat I'm making plans to release a series of old school 8-bit games. Think Retro Game Challenge, but simply stand alone PC games for cheap. Eventually they would be ported to iPhone, android, and just about everything else Game Maker Studio is capable of porting to.

I'd like to begin with a simple space invaders/galaga game since it would be relatively quick and easy. This would serve as a starting point for future projects to gauge interest, create a buzz, and get the company some notoriety. It would be on a contractual basis with some initial compensation and possibly residuals.

I'm in the planning stage for this project, so I don't even have a design document yet. I'll make one tonight.

The time frame I'm looking at is 2-3 months. Simple game, simple graphics, simple music. Facebook and YouTube campaign for marketing. Get it done, get it out, and start on the next one.

I need to do the guerrilla tactics because I also need to make the company website, work, and manage my side business.

That certainly sounds interesting, I would be more than happy to help you in this. If you think my work is suitable for what you are looking for I will be more than happy to write something for your project! I'll send you a PM with my email if you wish to contact me later on.

Count me in, too... Well... At least for some aspect of music if you also intend to do adventure games in the future.

Note the BSD license in the first link; I intend to release my second link under the same license as well, so that anyone can use it for whatever they want.

But yeah; there are times where members up here may seem sceptical of requests like this because some form of remuneration is typically expected (in my case, I'm fine with having my name in the credits if you choose to use my work).

I, too, may want to get involved.

You say your first game is very simplistic, like invaders. How simplistic is the music going to be? Can you provide an example of a game that may be similar?

Also, how many channels will we have to work with? I am definitely OK with the 2A03 by itself(most of my works are with this), but are we allowed to use something like the MMC5, which adds two channels?

I'm asking these questions, because I need to know how complicated the music should/should not be.

Thanks for the interest, Linker2a03.

You (and any one else that might want to contribute) can email me at:

My preference is VRC6, but for this first project MMC5 would do fine. As for an example of what I'd like to have in the game... hmmm... Gradius. That's kinda the sound I want.
