****EVEN MORE UP TO DATE UPDATE****

BETTER STEREO! [url=https://soundcloud.com/r0br0/what-it-takes-super-stereo]https://soundcloud.com/r0br0/what-it-takes-super-stereo

The crude mixing on my first stereo attempt was bugging me a bit. The triangle channel was simply doubled (allowing me to create a widening effect) but that also made it too loud. This time I exported each channel individually which allowed me to make the triangle EVEN WIDER (without messing with the pulse channels) and keep its overall volume under control. I also made the noise channel louder so those snares really cut through like they should.

There are also a couple new minor tweaks to the chorus melody to improve the flow and hopefully the emotional payoff.

The .ftm has been updated

****OLD UPDATE****

Like usual I found a bunch of "bugs" that I had to fix and I also tweaked a few melodic choices that were bothering me. I also revisited pretty much all my Sxx commands to make the bass lines flow better and added portamento in some places that were sounding too disjointed or robotic.

I really wish I could replace the version on Soundcloud right now but I don't have a pro account so I'd have to delete and re-upload which would be unfair to the people who have favorited it already.

****OP****

Man I just can't get me enough of that sweet VRC6 sound. I think I'm obsessed with saw bass. And Dorian mode...

After spending what seemed like an eternity on my last monster of a track I needed to switch gears a bit and do something a little more pared down. The goal with this was to make something focused, driving, and appropriately massive without going overboard.

Speakers with strong bass help in that regard.

Ok, so I know I said you should try stereo mixing sometime, but I decided to do one for you. Just this once.

Also, sounds GREAT. Love your songs lately.

Dang that's really cool! So do you just mute some of the channels and export a "left channel" mix and then mute some others and export a "right channel" mix? How did you get the triangle to sound so... uh, wide?

All I did was make triangle on both sides.

That's interesting then that it just happened to create a widening effect. You hear it too right? Or am I just crazy...

I think with that as inspiration I'm gonna take a crack at making my own stereo mix now. Gonna get fancy with varying levels of panning.

Sounds good man. I'm gettin a bit of a dubstep vibe from the song which doesn't usually work well on famitracker, but you make it sound good! nice work!

Ooh this is nice! Dig the atmosphere.

Also - I love the square/triangle call-and-response. Brilliant move.

New version up!

Bonus stereo mix!

Much appreciated! Getting a compliment from someone of your caliber feels pretteh, pretteh, pretteeeeh, pretty good.

I am definitely influenced by dubstep (among many other things) so I use 2-step beats in practically everything and I love bass. I know FamiTracker isn't the best choice for that kind of music but I enjoy the challenge.

Haha, that was a lucky accident. I initially wrote that part entirely on the triangle because I was using all my pulse channels for the arps. Then I found that they still sounded pretty good on two channels instead of 4, so with those extra pulses freed up I transcribed the first half into that harmonized "guitar" bit. I had planned on doing the the same with the second part too but after I listened to it with both I knew that's the way it should be.

I'm usually pretty lazy too but sometimes my OCDish perfectionism takes over and then that happens. Thanks for making the first stereo mix though. It made me realize how awesome that could sound.

Consider that a gift. Usually if I get into making a tune, I'm interested for a bit then move on to another song, and never finish it. Ive got at least 50-60 tunes that I've started and never finished.
