[quote=Warheart]At the mo, it's pretty stupid to compose longer songs since there's stuff that are buggy or simply doesn't work at all.

Warheart, I respect you and your opinion very much, but I cannot agree with you about composing longer songs with the S5B expansion.

I have brought here the proof that, although the 5B isn't supported and it's very, VERY buggy as it is now, you can actually make cool stuff with it. So here's the SMB2 Overworld song, USING THE FORBIDDEN SUNSOFT 5B EXPANSION CHIP! Slimeball made a build of FT which offers the ability to save modules using this expansion, but in order to create these you must use the text importer. Also, Warheart let me know that it is possible to create these, otherwise I wouldn't have a clue. Special thanks to them, and enjoy this song. [url=http://famitracker.com/forum/posts.php?page=1&id=4570]Here's the thread where all of this was discussed.

Oh, also I included a 5B version of the track I made at the beginning of the year, Super Mario Swing, which has a thread somewhere else.

[As a side note, I'd call the blend of techniques in these songs the MasterSoft style, although that name exists somewhere else].

Really good, for such a buggy chip!

Also, my Sunsoft 5B "documentation"

EDIT: Test modules updated. Also, Hxx-Jxx effects added.

Do you know what the hell happened to my song in your module? Square 1 doesn't halt at any moment!

Nice documentation by the way. I was planning to do so too but I see you did better than I would have done. It's curious that Square 1 works as crap compared to the other channels, but since it's still not completed any close to a release, it's tolerable. It misses any volume control and in order to halt notes you MUST put a new one with volume 0. I noticed that if you put notes too far from the initial one the channel will produce an annoying click, specially at low frequencies.

Thanks for your compliment. EDIT3: I found that thing you said in your docs. You must play my song first or else it will behave as s**t, since the effects can't be deactivated!

EDIT: Heyyyyy! Guess what! I removed the H00 you put in it and now it doesn't produce sound at all! Now that's weird.

EDIT2: NONONO! Do the following: Switch to IaTM's Totaka song, and when it's playing any sound switch to my song and the envelope will still be activated, producing a gross effect!

The 5B is far from being in a complete state, and should not be used for the time being.

I sort of agree with you, but still, I think that I, Warheart and others have in some way proved that this can be used although it's far from finished. It's still annoying to work in it because of the bugs and the inconsistent behavior but you can still make music with it.

It was fun making that track, but yeah, I do realize that the 5B should not even be available for use, but since it's there, I got beaten by curiosity and wanted to give it a try.

But well, until it's in a rather usable state I can wait, since I was mainly curious about how it worked and all that stuff.

Working with the unfinished 5B is not my idea of fun, but hey whatever. These are kinda nice.

I agree, rainwarrior. But sure is fun to listen to songs made with an unreleased chip. Sounds good overall, too.

Nice triple post, CheeseGuy99! =P

But I actually started this documentation before Lent (I think in February). I wasn't kidding when I said that I knew about 5B for a really long time.

Anyway. So it is. I shall start trying it out. You may even hear a original from me in sunsoft. Maybe.
