tl;dr version - someone mentioned this in a thread where someone made a mod for Brogue that added Infra Arcana-style tiles (courtesy of the very same sprite artist);
Edit: And it is awesome. Just needs 8 bit sound track/effects to go with it (and perhaps a little inter-tile tweening when moving, but that'll be beyond the engine if I'm not mistaken). Cardinal Quest has spoiled me :D
And I'm like 'this sounds like a fun project, challenge accepted'

I plan on making a song for every 4-5 floors of the dungeon so that you associate different depths with different musical themes, as well as for title screen/dying/winning/finding the amulet of yendor and so on. So 10-15 songs total. This is my first big self imposed musical project, btw.

Attached is my WIP of the first song, feedback (technical or mood) encouraged.

WIP for Floors 6-9, something like 3 hours of hackery so far. Patashuesque scholars may notice the background of this song, which is why the second half doesn't quite fit with the first half's feel (yet). Will be extended a lot as I have a lot of content in mind for it.

By the way, I may ask you to do a song for the Hallucination status effect at some point, since I think you'd do a really good job at it :3 But I'll bother you about it when the soundtrack is more complete, so much work to do and not enough work being done!

Dude, these are awesome, I'm loving the scaling on brogue_floor_69 (giggity). I like the style too, lots of crazy stuff going on that I wouldn't think of. One minor thing that grated on me was the use of the triangle from frame 12 onward. It just seemed really loud in comparison to the rest of the song even though I quite liked the notation. Not really sure how that could be fixed other than raising the volume of everything else or finding another way to get the same thing across. Pretty subjective though, and otherwise, I thought it was pretty kickass!

The first tune made me think of Alberto Jose Gonzalez's stuff a bit; it kind of has that SID sound to it which is a pretty cool style when done right. I've never been able to pull it off, but this sounds great. Nice work all around!

@Jayster: You can low the volume of triangle by putting Zxx (Z20, Z40, Z60, Z7F) on the DPCM channel, and either resetting it after each DPCM sample or not using any, and also boosting the noise volume to compensate (since it gets dropped by the state of Zxx too). I'll mess with it when the song is closer to completion.

---

Slight update, I wouldn't upload something with unfinished parts at the end except I'm looking for feedback on the new transition (glitchy -> breakdown -> ambience -> new part of the song), e.g. is it jarring and inappropriate or does it kind of make sense XD Keep in mind that this would be on a 4-5 minute loop in game, and floor 6-9 is still pretty shallow in 26 feet of main dungeon, so I don't want to subject the player to something that's bad every 4-5 minutes <.<

EDIT: One example of a thing I could do is, indeed of splicing up and repeating the instruments during the glitch, have them play something new with a modulation, so its feel is more like 'transition that just happens to have glitchiness on top' instead of 'oh dear my mp3 player froze again'

Patashu, the transition sounds very nice, although I am wondering if it would really fit. I would suggest having two transitions possibly! One that is normal, bring a full loop, and then the glitchy one. It might make the song feel a little more dynamic, also it gives you the possibility to make some improvisational changes in the 2nd and 3rd loops! My one note is, after listening again, would be to change the actual notes in the triangle on frames 12 and 15, I feel they don't fit and seem a little too random. I like the different voice it brings, and the eerie sound it has, but the notes don't fit with the other channels, and it ruins the whole effect, at least for me. That's just my two cents
