As far as I know, the N163 emulation in FamiTracker doesn't support the full features of the chip. Here are some quotes:
FamiTracker allows waveforms between 4 and 32 samples long (in increments of four), though recent discoveries have shown the actual chip is capable of reading the entire channel/waveform memory space, for a total of 256 samples per wave.

Every single N163 waveform from the 9 Namco games using the N163 (Maybe almost, but I think it is all of them).
They are sorted by game.
Unfortunately, I had to shorten the waveforms from Final Lap and Rolling Thunder, since they use 64-step waves instead of 32.

Most NSF players support up to 32 steps waves so this is the limitation in the tracker at the moment.
The last one was made by what I had in memory. I don't have the original file at hand.
Well, as we can see here, there were games that used waves 64-steps long, as moviemovies1 wrote in that thread. The chip can support up to 256 steps waves by reading the entire channel/waveform memory space(I don't know what this means though), BUT, most NSF players can only play waves up to 32 steps long, so this means we are in trouble.
I think NSFPlay supports most of the chip's capabilities, and even those for other ones, like S5B, but I'm not so sure. However, this also means a problem since maybe not everyone will want to use NSFPlay all the time to play their tunes, instead using their favorite/default player(VirtuaNSF in my case).
Also, I would like to add that since these features are way too far away from what we have now, it will make some people abuse of them, but that's up to the user anyway.
So, would it be realistic to implement this in FamiTracker in the next release or perhaps one after that? I would like to see this, but also I want to know what you guys think.

I record (some) NSFs on hardware. Feel free to request a hardware render.
I'm curious, jsr, what's your to-do list for Famitracker at the moment?

I kind of hate the N163 at times but you can still do awesomeness with it. And Sunsoft would be nice to use, so I'll still wait for it, even if it comes out next year.
The reason N163 is on low prio is only because it's such a low quality chip.
I would've thought that'd be a good reason to get full support going on this thing and then never bother coming back to it again other than for fixing bugs.
