I am just curious if you guys play any instruments/know music theory.
Are any of you in bands or write songs?
-------------------------------
For me, chiptune music is a very small part of my music, it's almost more of a hobby than anything. My main focus is my solo material which sounds similar in style of Imogen Heap, I suppose. I write a lot of 'classical' style music, though, and I have composed two film scores (a full length and a short film).
I have a few band projects, mostly I take my friend's songs and arrange them. I also, on occasion, do some hip hop production and remixing. Well, here is some links...
http://www.soundclick.com/MikePouchShowcase - this will give you a good sample of my music... It's got a few of my solo songs, some band stuff, some rappers I have worked with, and some of my better instrumentals.
Let me know what you guys do and what you think of my music if you check it out.
Seems you asked only to get reason for promote yourself.
Of course, every good chiptune composer knows (some) music theory and probably (somehow) plays at least the piano. You can't write good music without good knowledge.
I do more other music than I do chiptune music. Most of it consists of remixes or "sound upgrades" of game music though.
Me too! Well, sort of anyway. My original stuff has chip-style instuments in it, and one of my influences is video game BGM. I HAVE done remixes of video game BGMs that are my personal favorites, though.
I want to start posting my stuff online. Any suggestions?

MikePouch, I'm impressed! You've got a nice voice (reminds me of someone sitting on a porch on a nice hot day sipping lemonade). That, and I enjoy your work. It's really done professionally.
I can't wait to hear what you can do with chiptune now.

Demick12 and Dafydd, thanks for the feedback. I've been taking singing lessons since those tracks were recorded so my voice is a lot better and I'm going to rerecord those. I'm trying to finish up my album by the end of the summer...
Dafydd, I'm glad you posted your work. I particularly liked the piano version of the unknown megaman music. I am also glad to see that I am not the only person who writes lyrics to video game music. Haha. I love having something to sing along to the music.
Oh - and Demick12, here are my current plans for chiptune stuff.
I plan on doing an EP of chiptune music with vocals on top. It's kind of a concept album about my childhood and how much video games influenced it. Haha. I plan using Famitracker for most of it - but I am also going to do a song with a Gameboy tracker and one with Hyrule Magic (using Link to the Past instruments...) Haha.
I also am doing a bunch of lo-fi versions of newer video game music, as well as some other songs (I am working on an Aphex Twin song... rather tricky and time consuming - but will be amazing when finished...) Eventually I will release fake game soundtracks - I wanna do a fake megaman soundtrack.
In a semi-related note: I was originally doing the soundtrack for "Zelda: Quest for Calatia" - a complete hack of Link to the Past (http://www.questforcalatia.net/Zelda3C/index.html). Another composer got on board and it kind of tricky about dividing tracks up or having him change things I wrote. Also, time and school got in the way so it's been put on the backburner. Heh.
I delve into many different genres of music, 99% of which is all electronic based. Depending on the genre I'm working in I use a different moniker. For instance, for Chiptunes I use BGM.
I won't list all my names here, so I'll just list the genres I've muddled around in.
Trance, Trancecore, Industrial, Tech-metal, Classical, Classical-electronic, Tribal techno, Dubstep, Bigbeat, Ethnic-bigbeat, Drum 'n Bass, Breakbeat, Breakcore, Hardcore, Speedcore, and a lot of Experimental stuff that doesn't really fit anywhere.
Most of my stuff is just 4 measure loops that I use for figuring out the elements of the different genres. The ones I like most I make into full-fledged songs.
I currently don't have an outlet for my music, but I'm hoping to find a decent place to post it all.
