The N163 emits a very very faint ~21kHz hiss when using 6 channels (as opposed to the very audible 15kHz hiss you get when using all eight). Because 21kHz is above audible frequencies anyway (or just about inaudible depending on your age - I can still hear it), Famitracker switches to linear mixing when using fewer than 7 channels, rather than sequential mixing. That's why you don't hear the high-pitched whine you normally would.
With that being said, there's a way to tweak the Windows registry so that Famitracker always uses linear mixing, even when using 7 or 8 channels. It's not faithful to the original hardware, however, which is why it's not a standard option within the tracker.
With that out of the way, moviemovies1 this is a great cover, as usual. :)

Oddly enough, this one sounds much better with linear Namco mixing disabled (which is the default setting).
Linear mixing is a hidden setting in the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\FamiTracker\Emulation\Linear Namco mixing
Dword value, 0 to disable, 1 to enable.
The lead is still a little quiet though.
Edit: reading the rest of the thread, does Famitracker really force linear mixing when using 6 channels? It sounds quite different when the value is set to 1 rather than 0, it's more muffled and interpolated.
I definitely remember jsr making this decision because using sequential mixing for any configuration was causing weird aliasing issue that don't occur on hardware.

I don't recommend anyone using that reg key, it was left by mistake (since the discussions prior to the 0.4.0 releases) and will be removed in future versions. If you don't like the noise, use less channels or another audio source. Good job whoever found it though.
Dwedit: Yeah 6 channels and less will use linear mixing to avoid unintended aliasing, so it's not entirely accurate as in reality the difference between sequential and linear mixing is audible also with less than 6 channels. That might however be handled better by blip-buffer now when a more accurate sample generation method is used, I haven't tried it yet.
Anyway what you hear is probably a small volume difference that's the result of using that key setting.
@Mr_Master: If you want to use the setting, just download jrlepage's file and run RegEdit. While in RegEdit, navigate to the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\FamiTracker\Emulation\Linear Namco mixing" folder, then drag the file into the values window.
