In the Internet has found small article about it. http://www.vgmpf.com/Wiki/index.php?title=Nintendo_Entertainment_System
Probably to building it in FamiTracker?

Hmm interesting I always thought they simply used 7-bit PCM through $4011... Also, how the hell did they get expansion sound on a stock NES???

Who knows them... Action 52 uses mapper 228. Whether it refers to the expansion chip 228? Game from Active Enterprises.

I don't think this article is very credible. It lists the VRC2 as being "a sound chip by Konami", when it didn't contain any sound hardware at all. It also lists the 5B erroneously as FME7, and lacks a lot of information. I really don't think the author(s) of this article knew too much about the NES/Famicom sound hardware.

It even says something I find particularly humourous:
The following chips were used in the various incarnations of the NES
which implies that the sound chips were found inside the NES itself, which is obviously nonsense.

The 228 is the custom mapper used in Action 52, but the PCM you hear on the title screen it coming out of the NES's DAC, not any kind of external sound hardware from the 228 or anything else in the cart.

Even though the article is dubious, it is perfectly possible to get expansion sound on a stock NES by pulling samples off the chip and poking them to $4011 using an IRQ. At a sampling rate of 8 kHz, this uses around 20% CPU, if I recall correctly. Memblers has already designed chips that work this way. I wanted to make a voice chip using this technique, but unfortunately my ignorance of linear prediction (and DSP in general) and my ignorance of FPGA programming (which is not at all like normal programming) combine to make the task incredibly difficult.

The game does suck. Thx german youtubers.

But Anyway. I had FL Studio running with Wave Candy to analyse the Samples (Wavescope was used in Wave Candy), the interesting part is; After the title music played (Surely DMC) the man says: Make a selection. Now.
What I saw on the Wavescope was surprising. The Waveform looked like it would stuck or something. It wasnt DMC. Not 7-Bit PCM. The 228 chip was it. (Played on Nintendulator) Active Enterprises made the sucky game right? So they made the chip for the game.

I'll translate him for you...

FamiPunk221 decided to record Action 52's intro & plug it into Wave Candy to analyse the waveform. He's surprised that the voice sample in the intro is PWM & not DPCM. He's assuming that Active Enterprises made mapper 228's chip because of his finding.

Except it IS 7-bit PCM and he doesn't know what he's talking about.
