Exactly one year has passed since I discovered FamiTracker for the very first time.
By now, I am completely satisfied with its features, even though there are still some errors, malfunctions etc.
If you compare Nintendo music with the one integrated within Game Boy games, you will definitely notice a slight difference between the qualities:
The triangle channel is much more advanced than the one in NSF-music.
What I would like to start is a thread that deals with a new tracker: the so-called "GamBo-tracker" which has nearly the same interface as Famitracker, only with all adjustments and settings which you can find in "Paragon 5" for example.
Is anyone of you able to create this GamBo-tracker, working in Windows (XP), functioning like Famitracker?? THis would help a lot, because it would make Famitracker the perfect tool...

But how can you explain the music in TMNT 2? There are always chords (two leads) and some sort of a bass line which can be differenciated from the NSF- triangle sound. It does sound forte, powerful.

I wonder, why you ask to create the GB tracker, but haven't even read the GB sound specifications? GB has four channels, indeed. Instead of triangle and DPCM there is custom waveshape channel, which allows to define arbitrary waveshape using 32 4-bit samples. It can be triangle, rough sine or whatever else.
It's just that I didn't remember how those alternative forms are called.
Recently, I picked up a program called "Music Editor". I found the triangle, quad, up, fish and spec-sine.
All I am asking for is to add those wave forms to the FamiTracker (-> GamBo-tracker) because all game boy trackers that have been created since are unsatisfyingly customized.
The FamiTracker is the best program and I'd like to use it for privat purpose to compose Game Boy chiptunes.

Custom waveshapes are available in N106 (Namco's soundchip), which is not supported by FamiTracker currently. It uses 4-bit samples too, but has more channels and variable waveshape length.
Besides of FamiTracker changes, you forgot that GB support would require new player (for *.gbs export), and GB uses different CPU, so player must be made from scratch.
I actually prefer the gameboy sound chip. I'm not at all fussed about DPCM, I can totally live without it (and often do), and I love the gameboy's wavetable channel. Plus, IIRC, gameboy can do stereo!
would be great to have a tracker with GBS export, no question. I like famitracker's interface a lot, so something similar would be ace. i hope someone makes a tracker to do this some day.
I agree it would rock if Famitracker was capable of making Gameboy music as well. Your best bet might be getting a hold of the source code for another gameboy tracker like Boyscout and then rewriting some of Famitracker's code to use the gbs creating code from Boyscout (or whatever). This isn't something you do in a blink, however, and you'll need to know lots of c++ and have access to the mfc library editing tools.
Now that I've examined most of the features of the latest Fami-version, I am almostly convinced that a NSF-GBS- transformation IS possible: the formated additional squares and the sawtooth give the composer the opportunity to create vivid tunes, much more modified and advanced than regular NES-tunes.
@ Dave:
Which game then does contain music that is as good as the one in TMNT 2 (GB) or even better??

Any game that Jake Kaufman lended his talents to. Shantae, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, etc. Jake did some incredible Game Boy music using the free Game Boy tracker that no one here likes because it's interface isn't as friendly as most of you would like it to be.
The GB is quite popular and there are already several ways to create GB music, so I don't feel like or have the time to adapt famitracker for it. And I doubt anyone else wants to go through the mess of the sources to do it. Sorry
The key is to learn, and I agree with tssf; Paragon 5 tracker is a great start.
