So these guys are a "chiptune" band.

I've heard that they use a modded nes to write all their songs with either nerdtracker, or famitracker. When I listen to this song I'm not entirely sure if it's "true" chiptune. By that I mean I can't tell if they wrote the music within the confines of what a nintendo sound chip is capable of handling, or if they put it all in a computer and had a billion channels to do with what they pleased.

I enjoy the music either way, I'm just curious if they are what they claim to be. It's kind of hard to filter out the drums and guitars and only hear the chip stuff, and they haven't posted their .ftm files anywhere that i'm aware of. I guess my question's are these:

1. Does it sound like the chip stuff could be done in famitracker (with or without an expansion chip)?

2. Does it sound like they've added anything else during the recording process other than the chip sounds, and the instrument recordings?

(about 1:08 in the song is where I've really been questioning things)

You can find some source nsfs for their older material [url=http://web.archive.org/web/20090210032027/http://2a03.org/browse.php/2A03/archive/originals/anamanaguchi]here and [url=http://web.archive.org/web/20080714140918/http://www.2a03.org/browse.php/2A03/incoming/originals]here.

Maybe in recent material they've added extra channels, but their earliest stuff is just guitar and an nsf, not even a rhythm section. When I saw them play live a few years ago, it was just the 4-piece band plus a Powerpak. They let me play a couple NES roms on it after the show.
