If anything, we now have a definitive answer to that question. I was blown away when I listened to the set. Also, on Twitter she said that it was all 2A03+VRC6.
BTW a little hint of tech info: it's 2A03+VRC6 only. VRC6 handles supersaws. DPCM only plays BD+SD. reese basses are handled by 2A03 pulses.
Only 6 minutes in but I'm already shitting myself...

The "vocals" are especially impressive. I've never seen that done before.

edit: I would pay money for those .ftm's (if that's what she used)

She hangs out in #mod_shrine every once in a while. Perhaps someone could ask for NSFs.

Nothing. Who said that?

But seriously... this is one of those things the NES sounds like it shouldn't handle to most people, and although we can see that it's all clearly BEING PLAYED OFF OF ONE, my mind still finds it a bit hard to believe (but in a REALLY good way).

for those unaware, chibi-tech's nsf won last year's famicompo mini in the original's category. it was also the last song used in her set here, so nsf-import your heart out.

one part of her technique is simulating side-chain compression with volume control and Zxx.

fosho

if you're interested, i'd recommend grabbing some of anomaria's midi files and have a *very* close look at what he does with attack, release, volume and expression.

chibi-tech and anomaria seem to be coming from the same realm in terms of how sound design is approached. there's a method on controlling the order in which certain tones sound off, the attack and release. and it's dependent on a number of things, like which simulated instrument or behavior the tone belongs to, whether it's higher or lower, how much harmonic information the tone is carrying and whether or not it's supposed to be hitting at the same time as the kick or snare.

i've certainly been learning a lot from studying them lately(close to 100 hours on an anomaria vrc6 cover).
