I've played around with my FDS unit recently and now managed to get some code running on it, thanks to blargg's serial routines! The objective is to find out the exact behavior and tweak the sound in the tracker accordingly, as there still are some known differences (the exact modulator behavior being one example).

I can also use this setup to play NSFs, so I thought I'd take some recording requests in case anyone is interested.

There are some limitations that must be considered, since I'm using an unmodified FDS RAM cart:
- Only FTMs are accepted since the NSF needs to be special built. (MML might work too since the player source is available, but I haven't tried that yet)
- The RAM cart is 32kB so exported NSFs cannot exceed this size.
- DPCM sample space is limited to 8kB! This is because the FDS BIOS occupies the last 8kB.
- Only 60Hz songs. The FDS is supposed to have an IRQ timer so this might change later.

Post your files here if you are interested!

Rushjet1's FDX would be a good place to start I think!

I would but that song violates both the 60Hz and 32kB limits, unfortunately.

This is going to sound like a stupid question, but is this only for ftms that use the FDS expansion (ie a vrc7 track wouldn't work)?

I was going to suggest some FDS songs by Blitz Lunar, but both are over 32kb. Sadface.

I'd be really interested to hear danooct's and Flashygoodness's Want you Gone cover from Portal 2, but there's only an nsf available for download and nsfimport destroyed most of the FM. So if any of you have an actual ftm of that, it would be great, I'd really like to know what it sounds like on real hardware.

Haha those was among the first songs I tried.

I actually got plain NSFs working too, but then the space is limited to 24kB. Here it is: want_you_gone_fds.flac
