I'm making a cover of Hot butter's popcorn, and I was wondering what was the nearest I could get to the bass filter effect... I haven't had much luck so far. I'm working in the vrc6 saw channel with the bass...

Here's the original version:

Any help/input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Whenever I've come across a filter cutoff sweep like that, I use VRC6 pulses and gradually change the pulse width over the pattern. Check my cover for DC5 (Mayhem - "How I Love" for an example.

And here's an earlier cover that I have saved on my drive. I can't take full credit for it, though.

I thought Hot Butter's was a cover?

Anyway, I'm with icesoldier. Here's a rough draft that combines pulse w/varied width and saw.

Hot Butter's version is a cover, yes, but it's by far the most well known version.

I'm partial to [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=614hHSGJ9z8]the one by M&H Band, myself (often misattributed to bands such as Kraftwerk). The whole track has a silky smooth sound that is very rare. I'd try making an NES cover of it, except it'd be an exercise in pointlessness... I don't think it could be matched.

That IS really nice.

It sounds like it would make a pretty good SNES translation.

Honestly, that's also how I feel because of all the covers that were already made of it (even on the Commodore 64). After a while, it all starts to lose any originality.

+1 furrykef

My favorite version
[url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVMt5YdemWM]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVMt5YdemWM
Though it only uses the original main melody only twice throughout the song. Being just one of like 7 melodies of the song. The first time having harmonic changes differing from the original for about 1 measure and on the 2nd occurance a much moe varied harmonic change.
I like it.
