Okay, I've been wondering about this for a while, now.

In a lot of chiptune music, there's a kind of instrument that sounds to me like it switches octaves every half-second. Like at 0:10 in this video:

I've tried [u]arpeggio[/u], but it doesn't go high enough, and all my attempts with [u]pitch[/u] ended up like sound effects.

Anyone know how to make this instrument?

I'm surprised I got an answer this fast, especially one this close to the one in the video!

I guess it wasn't switching octaves, after all...

Interesting that arpeggio didn't work for you, because I think you'll agree this sounds pretty close. I don't think it's switching duty cycles like the one posted above.

Oh, hey! You CAN use arpeggio!
Yeah, this one sounds closer.
I thought you could only go as high as 10, like on the grid...

You can scroll through the instrument window's arp graphs using the arrows on the right, and you can also input the steps manually in the field at the bottom (that's what I'd recommend using). Just know that one "slot" equals 1/60th of a second, and that each increment of one will increase the note by one semitone (so "| 0 0 12 12" would play the base note for 2/60 second, then an octave higher for another 2/60 second, and loop back to the initial position).

Well, really, one "slot" is one processor clock cycle, which is 60 Hz by default but can be changed.

IMO the graph window thingie is completely useless except for volume envelopes, though it is indeed quite handy for those. For everything else, the numbers are where it's at.

I know I only just got an account for the forums, but I have had FamiTracker for a few weeks now, so I'm not a total n00b.

But I guess I'm still n00bish enough to not know to use the numbers.
