Congratulations to Rushjet1, SriK and Kevvviiinnn! Their entries will become demo tunes for the next release of Famitracker (possibly before). :)
I would also like to commend Zephemeros for coming 3rd in technique, and ArchJ for being very close to third place on overall score. :)
See you some time during the Christmas holidays!
Update: 27/08/2012: Okay, so the submission period is over. You may download the entry pack here.
Voting is done as usual, by returning the voting sheet to me with the entries given a score out of 10 on each criterion. Please e-mail me your sheet, again making sure to include your username in the subject of the e-mail (because some of you have obscure e-mails that don't reflect your forum username).
The voting period will end on August 31st, 23:59 EDT. There isn't as much time this time around because the contest started late, and I want to make sure I can post the results on September 1st.
I will take this opportunity to announce some bad news: this is the last Demo Compo I will be hosting in a while. I am sorry if this comes as a shock to you, or if you were hoping to enter in DC7.
There are several reasons why I am making this decision, chief among which are:[ul][li]I went back to school last week, and will be busy with that until December[li]I also work 23 to 25 hours a week, making it difficult for me to host a contest inbetween school and work[li]DC6 ends just in time for a FamiTracker release. In fact, the new version has been ready for some time, and jsr and I are just waiting for DC6 to come to an end so that the top-3 entries can be included with the stable 0.4.0 release.[/ul]September 1st is when FT 0.4.0 goes live, so stay tuned for the results! Details on why the release will be called 0.4.0 as opposed to 0.3.8 will be explained soon enough by jsr himself.
Before you ask, no, I am not "cancelling" Demo Compo. I am simply putting it on temporary hiatus. Once 0.4.1 is about halfway through development (or whenever jsr and I deem it appropriate), I will start hosting these again. There is a chance that I will host a Christmas special of some kind around mid-December until mid-January, but I have yet to work out the details of that. Again, stay tuned for more info around Christmas time! Expect some N163 action around that time. :)
Enough rambling now. Happy listening!
Rules and guidelines:
-All entries must be in FamiTracker Module (FTM) format only.
-Submissions are limited to only ONE FTM file per entrant. Subsequent entries will be disregarded.
-Each FTM may contain only ONE track. If you submit a FTM with more than one track, I will delete those after the first one.
-Entries must be compatible with the latest version of FamiTracker (version 0.3.8), which will be used for judging entries. Note that FDS emulation in 0.3.7 is broken, so use it at your own risks.
-Usage of the FDS sound hardware is mandatory (i.e. you cannot just enable it and just do nothing with it). Use common sense: if your tune only briefly uses the FDS for something like a sound effect, I'm probably going to refuse your entry. You have to actually make use of the expansion hardware you're given.
-Using the internal sound hardware is not required (i.e. 1-channel FDS tracks are allowed). Make sure your tune is extremely impressive though!
-Usage of any expansion chip other than the FDS channel is strictly forbidden.
-Overclocking is allowed, but strictly within program limitations (e.g. clock speeds over 400 Hz are not allowed).
-Similarly, use of a cheat engine or of any sort of hex editing to overcome the program's limitations is not allowed.
-Covers are strictly forbidden.
-NSFs produced using other programs and imported into FamiTracker are not accepted. Again, I reserve the right to refuse entries I suspect of being the product of the NSF Importer.
-Similarly, MIDI->NSF conversions are not accepted.
-Anonymity is strongly encouraged to make voting as fair as possible. In keeping with this guideline, submitting modules written prior to the competition is strongly discouraged.
-Please refrain from submitting modules completed before July 1.
-I reserve the right not to include troll entries.
Submitting & voting:
-On August 20, I will start collecting entries. Submission period ends August 27, 12:00 midnight, Eastern time. To avoid confusion, that means you've got until the end of August 26 to submit.
-Entries must be send to me via e-mail to democompo@gmail.com. No other forms of communication are accepted for entry submission.
-You must include your forum username in the subject of your e-mail (e.g. "Subject: jrlepage's Entry").
-IMPORTANT! Please make sure your entry follows this filename format: <author>_-_<title_(with_underscores_instead_of_spaces)>.ftm
-Author/copyright info will be removed from each FTM. When the voting period ends, the full pack will be redistributed with that info left intact (so don't remove it before submitting).
-Again, you must include your forum username in the subject of your e-mail (e.g. "Subject: jrlepage's Votes").
-Voting is also done in private (to the address above - no PMs please).
-Here is how voting works:
[ul][li]There will be two categories, Musicality and Technique.
[li]Voters will mark each entry out of 10 for each category.
[li]I will add up the two scores, and make an average of each entry's combined scores.[/ul]
-In order for first place, second place and third place modules to be made official demo modules, they must receive a combined average score of at least 16, 15 and 14 respectively. This is to avoid the awkward situation where no entry is truly deserving of being a demo, but ends up in one of those positions due to lack of participation.
-Voting is compulsory for all entrants. Failure to cast your votes by the end of the voting deadline will result in a 1 pt. penalty on your final score. This is to prevent situations where I am stuck with only a small fraction of participants voting, leading to unfair results.
-Voting is optional for non-participants (but very appreciated).
-For those concerned with transparency and fairness, I am allowed to participate, but cannot vote.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns about the rule or the voting system, let me know and I'll try to address them!
Have fun! :
