As it stands now, the numpad cannot be used to enter effect commands, it can only be used to change the values of effects that are already present. Is this intentional? I would certainly prefer to enter commands with the numpad than with the number row on the keyboard.
I noticed the same thing a long time ago actually, but never thought to report it. I've always sort of assumed it was an intentional thing, where effect numbers "act as" letters (as opposed to a hexadecimal string), whereas the value column is actually a number (so it makes sense being able to use the numpad there). Just my take on it, of course.
For the record I don't think it would hurt being able to use the numpad in the effect column; I just thought it was a logical thing not being able to. :p

I record (some) NSFs on hardware. Feel free to [url=http://www.famitracker.com/forum/posts.php?id=3633]request a hardware render.
I can see the logic in it too, actually. I generally assumed it was something like what you said. But on the whole, looking at it pragmatically, I just think it would be easier and nicer to be able to use the numpad in this manner.
Gamma, yes, me too. I use the 4xx command a lot and I don't know how many times I've pressed Num4 and suffered a brief moment of confusion, wondering for a few precious brain cycles why I don't see "400" appear on the screen.
