Extensions in general are loathsome, I certainly hope they don't become a recurring theme of this compo.

Well, I'm sorry to cause an inconvenience for you while I accomodate five other people to let them join in on the fun. Deadline extensions have only happened once in DC history, and that was the first one when I decided the format should change from 2 weeks to 3 weeks.

By all means, do feel free to submit an extra cover if you can come up with one before next Tuesday.

That's all well and good, but this is an event that takes place over an entire month.

Last compo I participated in, I was somewhat busy with two jobs, but I had ample time - I just managed it poorly. I had to rush everything and ended up submitting a sub-par entry that I've yet to publish anywhere else.

I learned my lesson.

I guess there's no real lesson to learn here. I had high hopes for DC5; going for VRC6 for this one was a strategy move intended to get as many people to participate, because the VRC6 is arguably the most popular expansion and DC5 takes place in July, which is when most people have more spare time.

I already have a healthy amount of entries for a normal compo (over 16 already with two more coming soon), but this is no ordinary compo - it's meant to be a larger even than usual - and also the fact that four or five people would have to drop out even though they're close to being finished makes me feel like I should do something to help them out.

I don't plan on making it a habit to push the deadline every time someone needs a few more hours, but we're dealing with special circumstances here. I do apologise if this makes you unhappy, and rest assured that normal service will be resumed in August.

!?!?!?!?!?!? I don't approve of this. A contest is a contest. I understand that you want a lot of people to join in and stuff, but for the ones who hurried their ass to complete it in time, was a wasted effort. I'm pretty pissed about it. Although I don't care about winning or not, I use DC as good practice when I have no inspiration. But anyways i'm pretty shocked at your decision because you're usually the rule enforcer here. Oh well....

Can't please everybody it seems. Anyway like I said this is more than likely a one-time deal. Choosing to make the deadline a Saturday night when most people are busy having a life was a mistake of mine, too, so I guess in the future I'll be more wary of those things and choose the deadline date more carefully so that situations like this one don't arise again.

I will be using these two days to correct some mistakes in my cover. A musician's work is never done!

Well a month is a month... I know I'm not competing and your decisions are final, but I'd like to suggest in the future for people to get their asses up and do something instead of waiting 1 or 2 days before the deadline. If you seriously had to wait for this long you must have one busy-ass life.

Just my two cents...

While I'm not sure that the extension is a very good idea, I'll put it to good use by starting on a new track. Here goes nothing, and the best of luck to everyone!

Also come voting, I shall deduct points from anyone who was unimaginative and used the sawtooth as a bass.

Are you saying that Konami was unimaginative in Akumajou Densetsu? The triangle can't hold up to the bass power (yes, I just said that) that the Sawtooth has. Volume control is what comes to mind and that's why people like it.

Also, what if somebody doesn't want to use the Triangle and would want to limit themselves on the bass or any instruments? I think that if somebody limits themselves channel-wise and makes something that sounds great, they know what they're doing.

On the other hand, you have the point of view that says that one should take advantage of what one has. Though I see that argument and why it can be viewed as valid, there are different sounds of 8-bit, like Mario, Metroid, Castlevania; they all sound different.

I guess the point is that, overall, I'll vote as I see fit. Does the piece sound good? Does it take advantages while somehow limiting itself to what it has (like taking a Namco N163 song and limiting it to VRC6, which is no easy task)? Does it sound different than the other pieces? Did the composer take advantage of the effects?

As my dad said: It's not the notes; it's the space between them.

Also there's totally less than 12 hours left now. Tonight we find out if the deadline extension was worth it or not! Also brace yourselves for a pretty epic entry pack. Definitely gives Famicompo a run for its money!
