So I've just started running Famitracker in WINE (in Lion) and it sounds like crap because of audio buffer underruns. I've read that the way to fix this is by configuring the audio settings in FT's config, but every time I click "configuration", FT freezes and has to be forced closed. :P
Is this a known issue with WINE? I assume that "the settings window doesn't open" isn't a known issue with FT (plus, I went back and it won't open in any versions back to 0.29). Since it's reasonable to assume that it's a WINE issue, has anyone experienced this? Would love to not have to run a second Windows installation over something relatively simple.
Other than the (completely normal) insane CPU load, everything works fine on [url=http://ompldr.org/vZWs5dA/ft-wine.png]my setup. I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 though, so I might have a newer version of wine than you do. I guess that's the primary suspect.
If you can't get into the settings dialogue no matter what you do, you could edit the setting by hand. Find the windows registry file on your system (for me it's ~/.wine/user.reg but idk about macs), then below the [Software\\FamiTracker\\Sound] entry you'll see "Buffer length"=dword:0000... Change the number at the end to something ridiculously high like 000001C0 or something, just to see whether it helps at all
I'm curious though, can you use other dialogues like the instrument editor? 'cause that'd be a much bigger issue, heh
I'm running ubuntu 10 or 11 or something and I have no real issues at all. The only issues I can think of is that you have to restart FT if you press enter after typing an instrument name.
In fact, I've made most of my songs by using FT through wine, so I can't really complain!
Updating Wine to 1.5.6 (the development version) didn't fix the "opening the config window" problem, but it fixed the original problem, so...small victories, I guess.
All of the other windows open fine, so it shouldn't be bad. Thanks!
