This looks like a perfect place to post my kinda off-topic question.
If I wanted a good free program to record my original songs and post them on youtube, and I said that Camstudio hates me and isn't an option, what would you recommend?

I don't know any free ones, but I would like to know the answer to this as well. ._. I need to be able to record Minecraft without my video coming out askew, or laggy.

I'm pretty sure FRAPS is the weapon of choice for most folks who do game videos. I can't see why it wouldn't be applicable for FamiTracker, too.

There's a free version, too, if I recall...

I use [url=http://www.hyperionics.com/hc/]Hypercam 2. It works alright, and you can use it for free without an "unregistered version of FRAPS" watermark. ([url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5MeaTqjcq8]example)

That won't work if the idea is to make a Youtube video of the tracker window, though.

I record (some) NSFs on hardware. Feel free to [url=http://www.famitracker.com/forum/posts.php?id=3633]request a hardware render.

For camstudio, you've made sure that you have the microsoft visual C++ redistributable packages intalled (Version 2008 if I'm not mistaken), right? The program is dependent on those packages and will not work without them. Once you can get it working though, it's a great tool. The video it outputs is very high-quality and so is the captured sound assuming you select the highest quality option available in the audio capture settings before recording.

Fraps wouldn't be an option for Famitracker as far as I know as it will only capture the image put out by a program using the DirectX or OpenGL APIs (which of course, in almost all cases, is a video game).

Fraps won't work with FamiTracker. It's specifically designed to work with games and games alone.

Vista and Win7 rely on DirectX for the Desktop Window Manager.

I use Virtualdub in combination with SCFH to capture the screen. Works great, and it'd be better if I had a better PC. Those programs are free, but it's overly complicated to use. Typical of me to use complicated things, but I have a standard for quality and framerate in my videos, and Vitualdub/SCFH combined with lossless codecs achieve that. You can try them if you're feeling ballsy.

Sorry to sound like the ultimate hardware hipster, but I actually have my own loop-back equipment (i.e.: a VGA-to-RCA adapter card & a USB RCA/S-Video capture card). :P

Sounds complicated, but it's not.
