So, I originally downloaded FamiTracker a few weeks ago, but after a few attempts at actually making music I got frustrated and gave it up. Out of interest again, I opened the program a few days ago and decided to get back into it and, three or four days later, here I am deciding to post my work here.
The pieces themselves are nothing special, as far as I can tell, but feedback's always appreciated. These pieces, of which are so ineffectively named, are really the only ones I'd really consider worth posting and that are relatively finished, so here you go.
Criticize me. Do it.
(I have to say, though, that for only a few days into the program that they don't seem too bad. But I know nothing.)
((Also also, some of the instruments I used were taken from various sources on the forum over the course of the past few days {also, if my notes aren't already to drawn out, my instrument-interface panels tend to appear in disarray, forgive me}--do I have to give credit for them?))
yes_quite - I really liked the atmosphere you had going in the beginning, and I like the music when it picks up, but I really hated that arpeggiated lead. To be fair though, I don't usually care for the arp sound in general... but that's just me.
ideas - I kind of wish this were longer. You've got some cool ideas and that 50% pulse lead was an *excellent* choice.
yeh_boi - Dig that groove! I haven't decided whether or not I like those looped noise effects yet, though.
good_so_far - Again, I think that arpeggio sound is preventing me from enjoying this because I really wanted to like the song. Also there were some strange effects you had going on with the first square channel that seemed like they were placed there with intent, but I didn't much care for them all the same, personally.
It's clear you're no stranger to music - these are rough around the edges, but the music was a lot of fun to listen to!
All in all, I hope you decide to stick with this; I really like your musical musings.
I have to ask, though... what's with all the extra instrument numbers you've got going on all the time when no notes are playing (or are already playing)? Is that a technique used in a different tracker?

Yeah, I like arpeggios a lot--too much, I think. I tend to overuse them and/or place them inappropriately.
As for the extra numbers, that's just me being lazy and spamming the instrument number rather than manually changing it. I think there's a shortcut that replaces instruments instead, but I honestly haven't explored much.
And as for your response: thanks! I wasn't expecting any feedback this quickly, let alone some fairly positive comments, especially since this was my first time ever using a tracker.

Select desired instrument, select notes to change (make sure you select the instrument column and that there is already a number there), then Alt+S. I recently discovered this myself.

I like it. The only one that drew me away was the last one. I really don't like Arps that much either. Plus the first beat while nice, tended to drag on for a little too long.
Yeah, at around frame 9 it's very overpowering. You don't seem to be using the VRC6 pulses too much in this, so maybe using FDS would be better since you could just draw the waveform of the distorted saw and still lower its volume. Also, check the wiki out because you seem to be having the same kind of "problems" as most beginners do. (Using Vxx on channels it doesn't affect, no volume control, etc.)

Well, for as far as the Vxx use goes, that was just me copying the saw channel into others and seeing no reason to erase the effect. Volume control is really the most prominent issue in that piece, I think, and I agree.
Also, I've never actually used the FDS channel in a song before, but I'll go try it out--it seems fairly versatile.
And I made this today, if no one minds me periodically updating this thread. Lovin' this feedback.

The saw channel responds to V00 and V01. Its inherent volume range is 0-63, but you only get 0-15 (0-F) in the tracker. The Vxx command gets around this by giving you access to 0-31 @ V00, and 32-63 @ V01.
Any channel that accepts Vxx commands responds normally to the ranges listed in the wiki. After that it rolls-over and treats the next number like the first. So taking the sawtooth as a 'for instance':
V00 = Lower volume range
V01 = Upper volume range
V02 = Lower volume range
V03 = Upper volume range
...and so on and so forth. In other words, V69 is exactly the same as V01, and this is why the saw is so loud in Perry's Last Stand - which I enjoyed quite a bit, by the way (the song, not the ultra-saw :D).
I like this new track too, but it's still kinda loud. The volume is improved, though, I think. You're on the right track! I'm kind of excited to see what you do when you get more comfortable with this! :D

You sir, are quite impressive. That's a lot better than the stuff I make.
I only got the chance to listen to yes_quite, and to be honest, I couldn't quite grasp the beat in the beginning. Not until like 3 other parts started in. But other than that, you have some crazy good techniques, and I'm slightly jealous. Keep up the good work!

Ahah, thanks! Most of them I've improved since then (though only minor stuff...volume and whatnot), especially that one. That was my least favorite of the group. But, yeah, thanks, it's reassuring to hear that I'm doing at least something correct.
And Necrophageon, just on that last piece I altered the volume just a bit (edited my last post) and I think it makes a huge difference. Also, that makes sense. I only used it before because I thought it sounded cool, not because I had any idea what I was doing. Thanks you!
Haven't been able to spend much time at the computer lately.
Pardon me if no one particularly cares for my periodical updates.
Loopwithanillogicalname - I decided to experience with different beats, something a bit different than what I'd tend to write naturally. Added a random saw-solo-loop for no particular reason. It's loud, I know, just mute it. Not sure why I have this obsession with saw waves.
Whattheheck - Not sure about this. The better of the bunch, though, methinks. I didn't plan this and it deviated quite a bit from what I sat down to create.
Whattheheck2 - Inspired by the first one. Sound levels are off, but I'm not going to go back to change them, I'm done with it. Poorly put together, etc.
Slowbro - not sure where this came from, either. It's kind of messy and again, the saw is pretty loud. I edited it in audacity after exporting it, though, and made it sound a lot more appealing. File's too big to upload and I'm not sure how to compress it off the top of my head. I'll figure that out later after bothering to look around a bit.
