Hi. I want to be able to use Ableton Live to start and stop Famitracker. I have Live set to send sync signals to Famitracker via a virtual midi channel. When I hit start and stop in Live, Famitracker does respond. Though, all that happens is cursor movement in Famitracker. There is no sound. There is a string of notes there for Famitracker to play, but it simply scrolls over them when this happens. If I hit play within Famitracker, I get sound.
A little more on the setup: Ableton Live and Famitracker are both set to send and receive midi sync signals through midi yoke channel one.
My goal is to be able to record the output of Famitracker in Ableton Live by simply hitting record in live. I understand that I can just export to a .wav file, but that would make the writing process very tedious. I want to be able to edit the song and try it out with other instruments in real time.
Hello. There is currently no way to control playback, the sync ticks will only make the cursor step down without playing the rows.
One way to solve this would be to add an option to actually play the rows on sync ticks. But I'm not sure if it would work as intended, because there will be a small delay between the sync ticks and the actual audio (due to buffering), especially if you want to sync the audio with other instruments. I guess this is the case as you want to record it in ableton?
How do you record the output from famitracker btw?
As of now I don't record the audio from famitracker. I'm sure there's a way to loop the system sounds back into the Ableton or something like that.
Right. I would like to be able to record the output in time with the tempo of Ableton so I can add other instruments in. I would also like to be able to perform live with the same setup. The goal is to make punk rock chiptune.
If it is not possible to do this with the program, I understand. I have to ask though. What's the purpose of sending midi signals to make the cursor step down and not play the notes? Hope that doesn't sound rude, haha. Thank you so much for your time.
