I've been doing a lot of searching recently and I figured this is as good a place as any to ask the question: Can anyone recommend a decent MIDI sequencer?

I'm currently running FL 10. While it handles MIDI sequencing and exporting fairly well, I've found that it doesn't seem to have any modulation control that I've observed being used in some MIDIs. For that matter, I don't think it has control for any of these things such as Mod, Reverb, Chorus etc (though it can somehow emulate it with imported MIDIs). You only seem to be able to edit note and channel panning, note velocity, pitch and volume with the event editor. As for things like modulation, you don't seem to have any direct control over them aside from setting a fixed value for each channel.
Please note I'm talking about sequencing with a mouse, not an actual device like a keyboard. And please, feel free to prove me wrong on this; it's just that I've found nothing that tells me otherwise. I'm having difficulty getting to grips with that event editor too, so fiddly (though that's more of a general problem)!

Basically, I want to know:
1. if FL has more MIDI sequencing capabilities than I'm aware of
or...
2. if FL is really crippled in this regard, if anyone can recommend me something else.

I've seen lots of people using Cakewalk and Cubase which might be more accessible/functional but I'd rather just stick to using one big DAW for now. Basically, some freeware/shareware with comprehensive functionality that I could learn would be really nice (if such a thing exists). Also preferably a sequencer which uses a piano roll or something instead of dragging notes on to staffs. I'm not very savvy with my notation just yet.

You can indeed automate these things in events in FL. Right click the knob and all will be clear.

Unfortunately this isn't so obvious right off the bat, but still, it's there.

EDIT: Are you talking about MIDI outs? Yeah, you can automate them in addition to the other stuff you've noticed, it seems.

Ah, so that's how you do it. Not very intuitive but I'm glad it's there. Thanks!

Wait, there's an option to rename the knobs? WHY???
