Sorry, I can't find answers to these anywhere, and the Help file that came with FamiTracker doesn't work/won't connect to the internet. So sorry if these are answered somewhere else but I can't find them for the life of me.

ONE: Is there really no way to see what note you're entering? You just have to memorize random keys? Is there a way to map notes to corresponding letter keys, like A = A, B = B and so on? CONFIGURATION doesn't seem to allow it.

TWO: How do you choose the octaves? I've read it's with the F keys, but all those seem to do is open the broken HELP file and/or start the song playing. I did get the triangle wave to go from a 3 to a 2 once, but now none of the F keys will change it back, or to any other octave.

Notes are bound to your computer keyboard in much the same way as on a real keyboard.

The bottom row corresponds to white keys on a keyboard, so Z-X-C-V-B-N-M-, = C-D-E-F-G-A-B-C.

The black keys are where you'd expect them: S-D-G-H-J = C#-D#-F#-G#-A#.

And the same goes for the upper octave: Q-W-E-R-T-Y-U-I-O-P = white notes from C to E on the next octave. Black keys are 2-3-5-6-7-9-0 (C#-D#-F#-G#-A#-C#-D#).

For your second question, you can assign the shortcut to change octaves yourself, but by default it's / and * on the numpad.

I record (some) NSFs on hardware. Feel free to request a hardware render.

One : If you have a midi keyboard you can use that. I use my piano all the time to make music in famitracker. I think mapping A to A and B to B would be more of an annoyance then help.

Two : At the top there is a thing on the toolbar that says octave with a scroll down menu. This allows you to cycle through the octaves. Alternatively F3 and F4 allows you to increase or decrease the octaves of previously placed notes.

Thanks. I'll just have to get used to the keyboard thing I guess. I'm used to LSDJ; Famitracker's inputs are so different. If only LSDJ could do triangle waves and DPCM at the same time!

I'm sure it's been suggested before, but I wonder about the possibility of marking the piano roll that shows up in the instrument editor with notes, and allowing it to be used for input, like in MilkyTracker.

For this type of questions I included in the manual of DefleMask this image.
I think that any Tracker need to include something like this.
If only LSDJ could do triangle waves and DPCM at the same time!
That is a limitation of the GameBoy CPU, not an LSDJ issue.

Oh, I know it's the Game Boy's hardware and not programming oversight that doesn't allow that; just saying it would be nice if it did! I really like composing on and playing with the Game Boy - really the only reason I'm getting into FT as that I want to be able to do drum samples and triangle bass simultaneously without having to mess around with two Game Boys onstage.
