I've been looking at this one one amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/Korg-MicroKey-37-Key-Midi-Controller/dp/B0043C599S/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1333509487&sr=8-6

So far i've just been using my keyboard to make songs in famitracker, but i'm curious if having an actual midi device would make things easier. For now it just seems like a matter of preference, but I just wanted to get some feedback before blowing $80.

Thanks in advance =]

I have found using a MIDI controller is incredibly with a lot of software, FamiTracker being no different.

If you're writing your stuff using a piano keyboard right now anyways, then a MIDI controller sounds like a logical step to take.

I have the one you're currently looking at :P

Yeah, a midi controller is a really useful thing to have. I'm not regretting buying one at all, especially since I already play the piano. Makes things much easier.

Incredibly useful for real-time recording using "follow mode" (which many trackers have, including Famitracker). Not as useful with step-by-step composing.

Personally, I'd buy something a little better than a standard controller, such as a real keyboard with a midi (or usb) port. Something with more than 3 octaves. That's just me though.

Heck, I'd buy one just for jamming. I have a USB-Midi electric piano I hook up to Fami and other programs just to mess around, but I've never done anything serious with it, probably because of how tedious it can be with a piano, but a mini keyboard sounds awesome.

I've grown extremely accustomed to using a PC keyboard as a musical keyboard, but I still sometimes have trouble counting intervals when I wouldn't with a musical keyboard.

I find it a lot more useful when you can actually play any chord (with many PC keyboards, sometimes multiple key events are ignored).

It isn't very necessary, but if you think you'll get some use out of it, go for it!

Just got my MIDI controller today. Worth every penny. It's a thousand times easier then trying to find every note on a PC keyboard. Highly recommend it to anyone else that may be considering getting one.
