Any MIDI keyboard is fine, I think. FamiTracker isn't really a performance tool (precise timing is more or less impossible), the MIDI input is there to make note entry easier.
Hey thanks so much Rainwarrior! Yeah, I cant stand using my laptop keyboard for note entry anymore. I wasn't looking for anything fancy, just something small and affordable. I just purchased a
Akai LPK25 MIDI USB keyboard from eBay for 30 bucks!!!! Check this little guy out, PERFECT!
I was thinking of getting the LPK25 when I was looking for a half decent portable midi keyboard. I ended up getting the Korg MicroKEY though; the extra octave really suits me because I can use it for more than just simple note entry whenever I'm not using famitracker.
They're both great choices, nevertheless. Just depends on what you're looking for.
Yeah, I think I'm gonna get a MIDI to USB adapter here pretty shortly. $30 for the e-mu xmidi 1x1, seems like a fair shake. I already have some keyboards at my disposal, so I don't need a controller.
It's too bad that Famitracker doesn't have ASIO support though. I hate how the audio is garbled when you try to record in realtime. Seems to work alot better if you mute the instrument while recording, which I'm sure is prohibitive for some people.
Do I have to set up midi controller seperately in famitracker? My Korg Micro Key does not respond (it works in Garageband though and the drivers are installed along with software).

File > Configuration. MIDI tab. Set Input Device to your keyboard.
