I actually really like that one, gyms. Especially the last, softer, lead note, like a defeated-feeling "please?"
I have an idea for this, I just need to get the nerve to open FT. I've let other things take over my free headspace, so tracking has fallen off my radar.
Sweet stuff gyms, almost atonal with all the shifting key centers. Inspired me to write an atonal piece using a tone row. Probably broke some rules since I don't know them all that well but whatevs.
@Kevvviiinnn, I love the melodies in boring_3.ftm, frames 05-07 are great : ))
@fluidvolt, haha, man I literally lol'd at your ftm title. I really like your usage here; some interesting variety in the interaction between arrangement and composition. Lovely stuff.
I did more or less the same(following my loose understanding of it), cept no tone rows. Just tried to match a melody I had in my head and import it into the atonal structure: didn't repeat a note until all 12 were sounded. The melody and bass were accounted for separately tho(probably why it doesn't sound fully atonal).
FluidVolt: there aren't actually "rules" with twelve-tone, everybody who uses it has a bit different take on it, but one thing you're doing that would be out of style for Schoenberg is you're kind of using the row as a theme, rather than as a continuous stream of pitches that you draw from as needed. Doing this also has a tendency to clump the piece into little 12 note expressions. You may like it this way, but it creates something that is kind of contrary to the reason he came up with 12-tone rows (which were initially an attempt to escape from thematic melody).
@gyms: the pun just came to me, probably more inspired than the piece itself . And thanks, tried to make it a little varied in the arrangement even with the short length.
@rainwarrior: Ah, yes that makes sense, chalk it up to my complete ineptitude outside of traditional motific melodies. You can hear the beginnings of me trying to break out of the 12 note box on the last frame but yeah... It's an interesting musical philosophy that I should investigate more besides listening to a couple of pieces. Thanks for the info.
Damn, hard theme. I've started something, though I don't know if it will achieve the goal. Maybe it'll get a smirk combined with a low pitched grunting emanation. That's counts right?!
Edit: Went with this in a strange direction, it's like a musical radio play, or I at least tried to tell a story with it. I don't know if it provokes laughter but I gave it a shot. Also make sure to listen with v0.3.7 because, as I learned with another composition, the speed changes will go totally berserk with the beta.
Haha, yeah I figured that was my best shot for a laugh. Glad it worked. I don't know if there's anything worth a holy cow in this one really, though I am fond of that out of tune ragtime piano sound near the end, I never thought it would sound so close to it in vrc7 with so simple of means. This series is very good at helping the writer think outside the box, I think.
