Can someone explain to me why the instrument presets are gone beyond version 0.3.0? And before you say something like this (These are way back from 2010 so I didn't want to directly necropost a whole thread);
It's not like many people use sequence presets.

But what you can do is open FamiTracker 0.3.0, run the sequence preset you want & copy the MML code in the text field (just below the sequence's bar graph). That way, you can paste it into FamiTracker 0.3.5 & even save it as a separate instrument file.
So what if it's "not like many people use them." Without them, I would not have even started creating chiptunes. It's one of the things made version 0.3.0 user friendly enough so that I could learn the ropes of the program (and chiptuning basics as well) without having to worry about technical details. And if I wanted to replicate the functionality of 0.3.0 to the letter with separate instrument files, I'd have to save every single preset setting, arrange them into folders to replicate the menu system, and then, after all that, if I want multiple presets for different things (exponential fadeout + vibrato), I'd have to load multiple instrument files, copy/paste, and delete, when I might as well have 0.3.0 open and copy/paste that way. However, having two instances of a program open shouldn't be necessary except in specific circumstances.
It's a bit of a moot point anyway; you can get a linear fade by right-clicking and dragging.
What about an exponential fade, which are more than useful when it comes to quick-and-dirty noise percussion? I've tried best-guessing an exponential fade manually, it never comes out as good.

So, can anyone give me a legitimate reason for the removal of a crucial, beginner-friendly feature?

That was a decision made by JSR & I do agree with it; presets are good to have sometimes, but there are many ways of doing things... Namely, create your own instruments in FamiTracker 0.3.0 using its presets & export them into FTI files. That way, you can use the instruments across newer versions of the program.

Or, you can lurk the forum's Share Your Instruments thread & download some pretty nifty instruments.

This said, much of the presets in FamiTracker 0.3.0 can easily be replicated with the exclusive use of effects (no instrument settings required).

But ultimately, it's up to the programmer to decide what features goes into his work; JSR removed these presets without asking us &, honestly, that's fine with me at least (I'm sure it's fine with others because you're the first to actually ask this in 2 years). It's still a legitimate request.

That said, it would be pretty cool if someone makes a lightweight program where you can easily generate similar 'presets' with variable parameters.
