not sure if this is the right place to post but im looking for something that sounds like a Shamisen
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shamisen
i tried just using volume swells on a high pitched arpeggio but it was no where near what i wanted.
if anyone has something similar please link me or any fami tracker instruments that sounds like traditional Japanese ones would be awesome.
hopefully someones really into samurai shodown covers and can help me out.
1. Duty change on attack to give it a quick "pluck" tone.
2. Very quick initial decay, then much slower.
3. Small pitch bend at onset.
You can go to the instrument editor and turn off the 3 macros one by one to see what each contributes.
You might want multiple versions of the pitch bend, and try using slides after the note begins. Sliding pitch is an important characteristic of a shamisen. You'll notice it's not very effective on the lower notes (make another instrument with a wider bend instead).
My use of many channels is kinda cheating, I guess I was kind of thinking of a koto. Anyhow, similar idea.
YUS rainwarrior! thats what i want =D i will probably just end up using yours but im gona have a few tries at making my own to help me get better at making instruments.
I think most of it's going to be in how you use the instrument, as opposed to the actual instrument itself. I played around with it and personally like going from duty 1 to duty 0 a little better...but the most important thing is going to be lots of Gxx commands to simulate strumming.
Did a short little loose cover of the first result that came up when I did a Youtube search for "shamisen" lawll
all of these are great but kulor seems to be right ive been playing around with effects on rains instrument and you can get some nice sounds from that.
