Hi everyone. I have a feeling this is a question you all get asked a lot but I cannot find any specific info, probably because I do not know the right search terms. So, sorry if you've been pestered with this a million time.

I am looking for a way to make notes repeat when put directly after each other. I know about the note cut-off key. The thing is though, the dash it makes takes up a whole line and the next note isn't played until the line after that. I want the note to repeat each time I place it, without a break, instead of sounding like one long note.

This video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JF18qPrmw-0 shows what I'm trying to do in the noise column so I know it's possible. The note B-#, instrument 00 repeats without a dash in between instead of sounding like one tone. (B-# 00)

Can anyone tell me how this is done? It seems like it's so simple but I cannot figure it out to save my life.

You could also use mute delay (effect S) to make it so notes are cut off for only one frame, which gives a tounging effect to the notes.

But in the video, the instruments have volume macros defined that decrease fast enough that re-triggering the note provides a different sound.

Even if you use a "blank" instrument, always have a 0 at the beginning, and it will always sound like what you want.
This is my standard envelope I make every time I begin a new .ftm:
0 13 10 / 10 8 6 4 2 1 0

Or you could do what za909 says, but have something greater than zero at the beginning, say, a 5, so that the note begins right on the downbeat. Note that if you do this, without a note cut or manually inserting a 0 into the volume column, the given channel will never fully mute.

I personally prefer to use the Sxx command. If you're at Speed N and Tempo 150, then you have a guaranteed N frames per row, so S0(N-1) tells the channel to cut off on the (N-1)th frame so that it's ready to begin again on the very next row. Does that make sense?

EXAMPLE.

Is this what you are looking for? I would like to help. It's the way I do it, but it's very editable and you can change the volume numbers. Notestops just don't work as well.
