This should be everybody's signature on this forum.

You don't learn by doing things right away; you do things by studying & learning from others who have the experience. The FamiTracker Wiki teaches you a few tricks with the program, the Help file teaches the commands, but you need to understand music well enough to know how to manipulate notes to affect people's moods, iGotno_scope.

na man. this goes to our different mid set ways i think.. see that can be your way.. but my way. is i do it until my way becomes right.

I know you're trying to be a big person and not start anything... but you really do need to control SOMETHING of the listener's feelings when they listen to your music... meanwhile you thinking you don't have to and not even trying is just making tons of ear rape messes. Not to offend with that though.

*sigh* people trying to act mature to be more acceptable then denying ever having acted mature just saddens me...

And yes, your music is horrible. Increasingly less horrible but still horrible.

Imitation before innovation, I always say.
You can spend your time reinventing the wheel so in the end you feel a sense of purity and self-righteousness, or you can accept that most every modern musical concept is stolen from the past (listened to the radio lately?) and learn something from them.
Either way, your directionless fumbling is still greatly influenced by the music you listen to, whether or not you choose to accept it. It's up to you to be crafty about your "theft" and combine ideas in ways you actually like and express the thoughts and ideas you're trying to express.

Okay, so if you want to try to isolate yourself from other music with the hope that this will keep you creative, that's fine, but why are you taking over this thread to talk about that?

Yucca asked for help making sad music. Let's get back on topic.

I don't know what "wracked out" means, but from what I've heard I think I can guess.
Regardless, what I said still applies: The artists you listen to didn't go meditate on a mountain somewhere and invent music on their own. They still have influences you may or may not be familiar with and chances are good (if not definite) they spent a lot of time copying what made others successful before making serious attempts themselves.
You don't hear the garbage they made on their journey because they don't want you to. Rest assured though - no one just up and decides "I'm going to write music today" and suddenly masters it.
You either listen to music and learn from it, or tell yourself you're above all that and struggle with it for a long time until the same thing happens subconsciously.

Guys; let's stop derailing the thread.

yucca70; that was more creepy than sad. In terms of what I imagine, I can imagine this being played while exploring a cave or a dungeon, but not while I'm beside someone's death bed. It's because you've selected a minor whose set of notes can't really be used to invoke sadness.

What I've been trying to say is that music isn't so stiff, rigid, and formulaic as some people would have you believe.

This attempt is much closer to sad (to me, personally), but comes off as enigmatic, or curious.

I'll even tell you why that's what I get out of it (best I can):
There's no flow - to make me feel sad you have to take my emotions and hold them. This arrangement plays a few notes that echo out and let go, then come back again from a different angle that kind of surprise me.

Nobody knows me around here, so take my words with a grain of salt, but if you're going for sad, make something with more continuity. Even a bass-line that ties everything together would make a world of difference. Pick a key-signature and stick with it to start.
