For http://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/OHC211 I made some 140ish bpm VRC6 progressive chiprock based off of an idea I've had for a song for mooonths. I didn't get to finish, so I'm going to complete it either this evening or over the weekend and put it on my soundcloud :D

(weekly thasauce OHC plug !!!)

This sounds great. I'm really digging the percussion.

Half an hour? And hour? I wish I could write something that fast...

This took a bit longer than that.

OHCs give you an hour, hence the name (One Hour Compo). I am still slow as shit in Famitracker tbh, my workflow requires me to repeat volumes on every note for most instruments, I have to run all over the place copying and pasting frames and I have to think consciously about my mixing. If you can compose more efficiently than me than you have a huge edge over me. (For example, in that OHC a-zu-ra's song goes several minutes longer and, more importantly, is finished. And he was using Famitracker too, probably coming up with something on the spot while I was arranging around a musical idea I've had for several months now. Oh, and I use a shitton of pre-sets. So clearly I have a lot of room to improve)

I got a long way to go before I'd even attempt an OHC but I can tell I'm getting more efficient. This thing here took a couple hours, but it could have been less since I tend to just listen to the track the majority of the time I'm working. I usually don't have a fully formed idea going in so I need to let the track tell me what it wants to be.

My idea for this was just "quintal chord progression" so it's C, G, D, A. Interestingly, it ended up sounding similar to "Melody A.M." era Royksopp, which is actually pretty neat.

I really like the drumline in in robro__quinty. It sounds quite nuanced with very little effort.

Thanks, Necrophagen. I knew it must be that. I just couldn't hear it. I'm a bit of a spazzboid at times.

If you'll excuse the anti-PC sentiment.

Thanks. It was my first attempt at combining conga-like drums with the kick and snare, as well as using a noise hit of a drastically different timbre than usual. I think those elements came together quite nicely, and like you said give it a nuanced quality.

Thanks Robro, you're one of the few in the FT forum who does! I intend to extend it to a full tune, using other bit of the soundtrack. Keep an ear out

If you think about it, a square wave is just a distorted sine wave, so it makes sense that by using max feedback you'd be able to achieve square waves. ;)

That's a pretty cool loop btw!

This is neat and they certainly sound like 50% pulse squares, but in the oscilloscope they look like weird sine waves with pointy bits... anyone know how this works out?
