Hi, I've been using famitracker for a while now, just signed up to these forums now to try and get some answers...
Basically, I don't know how to input extra squares to ultimately have more than just 4 layers (2 squares, triangle and drums). I've seen youtube videos with more than 2 squares and I'm not sure if I'm just an idiot but I could seriously do with some help on how to add more in.
You can also use the FDS, it has a 25% and 50% square, but it is called pulse.

Mind you, if you just want two extra square wave channels that have the exact same features as the 2A03 squares, use the MMC5 expansion. Quite honestly, as good as FDS is, it's still limited to one channel, whereas VRC6 has the most robust square wave channels (which use pulse width control instead of duty cycle control).
By the way, Bari10, you can easily manipulate the FDS square wave to use any duty cycle other than 25% & 50%.

I know, but those were the default settings, so I just thought I would just say something about it.

Pulse width and duty cycle mean the same thing, by the way. Probably the synonyms are being used to distinguish the VRC6 squares so it's easier remember they have different control values.
Well... Pulse width is in itself related to the duty cycle, but the duty cycle is a ratio of the amount of time the pulse is high with respect to the full wave cycle. Pulse width, though, is simply the length of time alone that the pulse is high. This said, you're still correct.
VRC6 squares, though, has a wider range of duty cycles than the standard 2A03 squares.
Module; Module properties; Expansion chip. You propably want VRC6 or MMC5 for the extra square wave.
If that was too complicated, try this.
Ctrl+P -> Expansion Chip -> Select an expansion chip
Also, if you press F1, you should see a help window that tells how to use the program, 8bit_Joe... Providing that you have a file called "FamiTracker.chm" in the same folder as the main program. Chances are that the help file will have all the information you need regarding the program itself, while the wiki has more information regarding techniques you can use in your music.

Oh I think I get it, sorry, I honestly didn't know what the fudge an expansion chip was. Ctrl + P worked fine for me so really thanks. I also hadn't spotted the module bar originally..
